Lite-On LVW-5005 (DDW-813s)

My LVW-5005 DVD recorder started to reject preparing DVD-RW blanks. Also it would not play all of my origianl DVD's. I pulled it apart, extracted the DVD recorder which is actually Lite-ON DDW-813s PC type DVD RW. I cleaned the laser lense with a spray on isoproply cleaner called "isoclean". There was some dust on the lense but now all clean. After I put it all together agin, I now only get "no disc" for every disk I put in. htis includes audio cd, DVD, orig and backups. What can now be wrong with this unit? Can I buy the a replacement dvd easily? Thanks for your help.

I had exactly the same problem, but cleaning the lens gently with a Q-tip wet in isopropyl alcohol was all that was needed. Now is working fine again. Of course pulling apart the DVD RW was the hardest part, but it was worth it. Just be careful not to touch with your fingers certain parts of the circuits since your body creates static that can fry those circuits and ruin the unit. Make sure to touch a metal before starting as well as the tools you use do the same to prevent static.

I put an old Pioneer DVR-108 in my liteon VCR/DVD (had a DDW-813s) in it. Works pretty well : basically everything works... The only problem is with DVD+RW : recording is not smooth. But all other liteon functions work perfectly. Even better than before !

In any case, it's encouraging and so I'll try other drives in there as I'd like to have a quieter drive... The pioneer is quite noisy.

I removed my faulty DDW-813S and put it in the bin. To save money i cut a hole in the top case of my recorder and just connected a normal DVD/CD/RW That i took out of a faulty computer. I made sure it was set to master and just used the conections that where on the old drive. It works perfect. If you need help..Mail me at [email protected]

Lite-on DDW-813s

Open the drive (dont break it). Eject the tray, under the tray you should see a small belt drive. Replace the belt with a rubberband of approximatly the same size (a little smaller wont hurt). Re-assemble the drive and it should eject fine. Lite-On drives seem to go through these belts pretty quick, I have fixed hundreds this way. Never had one I fixed come back for the same problem.

Lite on LVW 5005 NOT WORKING

This is a common problem with the Lite-on LVW range of DVD recorders due to changes in the construction of more recent DVD R media. It can be solved with a relatively simple firmware upgrade.

Goto : http://r00.liteonit.com.tw/DC/english/download/index.asp

You'll need to have a blank CD and a CD/DVD writer in the PC you use to download the file.

Follow the instructions on the website to upgrade your firmware, this should then allow you to write to DVD's once again.
