Engine Starts, then immediatly shuts down

My 1987 Dodge raider starts up fine, will run for about 15-2 minutes, then as soon as the engine heats up, it shuts off, when I try to start it up, it will start them immediatly shut off. I checked my coolant and it's in dire need of being changed. Would my engine be shutting down because it's overheating?
