Remove broken key from ignition

To remove broken key use an o ring pick and a doctors stitch twizzers . works every time.

Lock smiths have tools that may allow them to remove the broken key without removing lock cylinder.
I have had success removing broken keys by bending a long pin to form a small hook at the end, then using this hook to enter the lock cylinder, hook the key stub in a notch and pull the stub from the lock.
Depending how deep the key stub is, it may be possible to CAREFULLY! apply a drop of Cyanoacrylates glue i.e. "Crazy Glue" to a suitable stick / pin / rod / or the original remaining key, stick it to the broken stub, allow it to harden, and remove the broken key.

I'd recommend a dental pick.

Remove the switch , by following (old post) the FSM under steering
for Ignition switch removal.
this act , unlocks the lock.
one other way, is to destroy the cylinder, (ask a thief) and turn the guts
until it unlocks,

Us a small metal curved pick and a small screw driver and with a little Patience you can get the broke key out . Good luck

If the broken piece of key is not sticking out of the ignition lock, unlikely you will be able to remove
it. Because its probably one solid broken piece and its bent so it wont slide right out.

But try getting a strong magnet, and put your spare key in until it touches the broken piece of
key in the ignition. Stick the magnet on the spare key and see if you can pull the broken piece out.

If you have an old speaker thats not working, there will be a strong magnet on the back of the
speaker. Or use a magnetic pickup tool for picking up screws, sockets and stuff under the hood of
your car. You can get a magnetic pickup tool from an auto parts store.

If you cant get the broken piece out you will need to replace the ignition lock. Not easy on
a Cadillac, probably has the telescoping/ tilt steering wheel.

Hi Once the cowling around the ignition is removed, turn ignition switch to the first position (because the key is in the switch you should be able to rotate to the first position)
On the top side of the ignition barrel there is a spring loaded pin ( this pin is difficult to see and get at)
When you have located this pin press it in ( use the cranked end of an alen key )
While its pressed in pull out the ignition barrel with the broken key in it
when you have the barrel in your hand you will be able to get broken key out.

take it to a lock smith to remove the broken part or you could jam the broken part down to where the ignition will turn with the broken key. I advise taking it to a lock smith to remove the broken part

Air bag , steering wheel, and signal switch have to be removed before the ignition cylinder can be removed. I would try very hard to remove the broken key without damaging anything.. Hope this helps.
