Each specific solid (shape) that has some regularity has a formula which can be used to calculate its volume. If it has no regularity the calculation will be more complicated.
For a right rectangular prism with dimensions L, W, H the volume is L*W*H. For a right circular cylinder with radius r and height H, the volume is Pi*r^2*H.
