Yes, you can use the A output, as long as you're OK with it being a mono system. It may be helpful to read the manual which has a lot of info including possible setup configurations. Here's a link- http://www.mackie.com/products/srm1801/pdf/SRM1801_OM.pdf
If you bought it short ago and can return it, i would do it, and buy a better mackie mixer without the bad soundinding dsp on it. But you have to buy another cable or just a direct plug on connector
Have you checked fuses? You may have overloaded the amp and caused a fault internally. I have experienced power supply faults with Mackie products, but it may be a simple fix. Find a local repairer to have a look at it.
Go from the main outs on your mixer to the input on the 1801. With an XLR, connect the 'high pass' output on the 1801 to the input on the 450 on top of it.
