Crushed Ice only

Several possibilities, but check first for cubes that are too small (means too little water is coming in during ice maker fill) and those cubes fracture into smaller bits when they are dispensed.

Another possibility is the cube/crushed plate inside the dispenser is stuck. This is a curved plastic piece that lies next to the crusher blades inside the dispenser head of the ice storage bin. For cubes this place must be retracted (swing away from) the crushed fingers to allow the cubes to pass without being broken up.

Take out the ice bucket and check the metal arm and make sure it moves freely. Ice may have gotten stuck.

Check that the shifter bar on the bottom of the ice bin is moving to shift from cubed ice to crushed. With the ice bin out you should see movement in the back wall of the freezer with the light switch button held in while changing the dispenser controls from cubed to crushed. GSH25JSXASS Parts

I understand that you are receiving crushed ice even when you request cubed ice. It could be an issue within your control panel or solenoid. There is a metal rod under the ice bucket. This rod sticks out from the back of the bucket. Where it inserts into the ice shelf, you will see a small square hole. This is what changes it from crushed to cubed. It is an actuator that moves the rod to allow cubes to come out. Stick a screwdriver into the square hole and move the actuator up and down. Then reinsert the ice-bucket and that should fix the problem. Hope this helps.

What is most likely your problem is the crushed ice solenoid. This solenoid, which is located next to the auger motor behind the ice bucket, is failing to actuate when you request cubed ice. Its "home" setting is crushed, and actuates to allow cubes past the crushing mechanism in the bucket. To be certain its the problem, remove the ice bucket, and tape the door light switch in the closed position. actuate the ice dispenser lever, for both cubed and crushed ice. you will see a square hole next to the rotating fork, when you select cubes, it should open. If it does open, there is something wrong with your ice bucket, perhaps the arm is broken, or the door inside bucket is off its snap in type hinge or broken altogether. You have a solenoid switch which switches the dispenser back and forth from crushed to cube. It could be stuck or not working or the parts connecting it could be disconnected or broken. You will have to observe to see if any parts are moving and if any noise is coming from the solenoid

there is a metal rod that sticks out the back of the ice maker bin, it has a spring around it. it needs to fit into hole in the back of the fridge.

I have a GE TFX25ppbaaa refrigerator. The ice maker corkscrew motor would run and provide crushed ice only. The corkscrew motor would not run when the switch was moved to the cubed ice ( half moon) setting.

I replaced the large Light/ water/ crushed ice/cubed ice switch , ( product service number GEH WR55X129 ) ( part number GE 162D6372 PO17 )and it fixed the problem. Cost was about $43.00.

Check the following:

Is the freezer door closed completely?

Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?

Is there ice in the storage bin?

Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?

Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?

Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.

Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket? Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
bin.

Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice? Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.

Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.
