My Acer laptop just crashes randomly..i used to have vista, but once it started to crash on vista i installed XP thinking it would stop the crashes....it didnt. now i cant install Vista for some reason.. Does anyone noe how to fix these problems or aleast pinpoint the causes? thanks

Try starting up in Safe Mode (Console mode) and type in
"SFC /Scannow"Once its done you should be able to do recovery options.
If not, boot from the windows 7 recovery/install CD and choose "Repair".
Go through the recovery process using the CD and it should all be fine!

The problem is not the hardware but basically a driver that is corrupt. The graphcs driver thats crashing is one for nVidia, the fix for this is an easy one.

Restart the laptop and repeatedly tap the F8 key. This should take you to an advanced boot options screen. Use the cursor key to navigate to Safe Mode and hit the enter. The computer will start up using basic display drivers so the nVidia drivers won't load and crash the machine.

When the comuter has booted right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Acer Support website or perform a Microsoft update and see if there any updated drivers for the nVidia graphics.

i/run operatin disk take prompt comman and type chkdsk/rr 2-3 times it can be repair your system 2/ repair by operating disk if not work by two methode reinstal operating system.

The complete solution to this fault (Acer 5535 keeps crashing under vista) is to use Windows XP instead of Vista. Set up a Dual Boot so you can CHOOSE to load XP or Vista each time you turn on the laptop. I've put XP on my 5535 and it's SO much faster and seems perfectly stable now - no crashing at all.

Just uploaded the driver for you. Works with XP and Vista.
Checked with Symantec antivirus software and it's clean.
Just download, double click to extract to a folder of your choice and run the Setup icon.

if you originally had Vista on then the bios is updated from the older XP bios and wont see the drive, check here for bios downloads, or put Vista back on.

If you have a full XP disc you will need to do a full format and installation, do not use somebody elses restore disc as it's not the complete windows that you will need.

It is highly unlikely its a crash......two operating systems cannot....CANNOT crash similtaneously. Its impossible! unless the hard drive you run both on is faulty BUT you wouldnt get Windows to load. Not even for a bit....you say all lights will stay if they were lit up but they some how dont stay on.........I think thats what you mean.........then you say you checked again and there were rectangles that look like a book that stopped blinking yet the power lite stayed on....Im at a lost But I dont think its a crash......only software crash it might be a hardware pronlem....
