Is speed lever literally stuck and can not be moved or is the motor speed always on high? The two have separate solutions.

The easy one is the stuck lever. Open the mixer up and see what is going on.

The other requires more effort. Again, opening things up is the first step. This time, however, simply removing the back cover should do. The most likely solution has to do with adjusting the control plate screws and the other may be replacing the phase board. See the Service Manual which can be downloaded at:

Spray some WD40 into the eject button. The wait 10 minutes and turn it upside down and spray WD40 down the side of the beaters Leave 10 minutes and try again/ If that doesn't work, you will need full disassembly

Why is mixing speed switch not working correctly?

How old is your appliance?

If you are just getting one speed at any speed control. Its likely that the speed control mechanism ( probably an electric one has been damaged due to ailing parts). Likely component which may fail over time are electrolyte capacitors. Take a look at the circuitry inside the food mixer.

You may need to change some parts to get back the control.

Speed lever stuck

Hello Janet,

if your speed lever / switch is stuck something inside is broke. A new speed lever assembly is available on the internet or ebay for about 18 dollars, to replace it will take about an hour and you will have to tear the machine down to do it. Let me know if you want to do it yourself and I can point you in all the right directions.

Carbon brush stuck in kitchen aid mixer

What model number is your machine? Try turning it on it's side and shake a little, take a very small screwdriver and grind away to crack the brush and shake it out. Otherwise it is a full tear down to take the brush holder out. Hope this helps if not get back to us for help

I have a kitchenaid K45SS 250 watts. The speed control is only working on high (10). Is there a easy way to fix this. please Help.

You will have to open the appliance.
Most likly cause is food residue in the switch or oxidation/corrosion tot he switchs contacts. In any case remove the switch and test it with a continuity tester if switch positons are not making contact spray it with an electronic contact cleaning solvent and operate the switch repeatedly, repeat a few times then leave the switch somewere warm for the solvent to evaporate (6 hours+) and then retest your switch. Let me know if you need anymore help :)

Speed Control Knob

It is most likely a stuck control assembly item #8part #9703609 in the following parts diagram:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%204176966.pdf

the parts diagram shows where it is located and you should be able to figure out how to disassemble it from the diagram.

The latch/switch on the speed control board is stuck

You need to take the back cover off and then split the gear cases to find the mechanical reason why the lever is stuck. Take the motor off the pedestal, remove the planetary and undo the 9 screws that hold the bottom gearcase to the top housing. You will need to unplug the white and the black wires from one side of the speed control plate.

Kitchen Aid 10 speed 325watts

Some of the gears may have broken or slipped off. You'll need t open it up to see why the shaft from the motor will not spin or you will burn out the motor with the power on trying to make it go. It might be a DIY job if you can see an obvious problem like a slipped gear, otherwise take it to a repair specialist.
