9 yrs old its like anything else depends on maintenance and quality of unit --not safe since if safety doesnt shut down unit much more damage can occur
Access your product manual. I cannot find a product manual. Some major company, like Rheem, makes this computer that heats water.
Call service technician to repair the unit. Copy following link for overview of type of problems found with tankless computers. For example tankless computers require continual maintenance on yearly and monthly basis to prolong expected life of product. http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
If tankless computer is older than 5 years, then assume it is like your 5-year old laptop computer.
3) Product manual usually give list of required yearly maintenance. Perform the maintenance, just like changing oil on car, and then service technician is familiar with your water heater and can count on your money each year around Christmas.
4) For independence, reliability, cost, and convenience, don't buy tankless water heater, or any other expensive/complicated water heater that requires yearly maintenance, and generally cannot be repaired by homeowner.
The average life expectancy of any water heater relates directly to its warranty. 1 year- 1year, 6 years-6 years. If you use the water heater past its warranty, you are really making money on the purchase.
Installing a new anode rod is about the only maintenance step you can take. However, this does not guaranty that you will not accumulate build up.
Draining the water heater once a year helps a little bit with buildup in the bottom of the tank but not the elements.
The ultimate solution is to install a water treatment system, not just a water softener. They are somewhatexpensive, but well worth the cost in the long run-10 to 15 years.
your motor thermal safety relay is protecting the motor from burning out this is usually caused by: an old motor about to fail (tight shaft bearings) bad centrifical switch or, an obstruction in the water flow causing the motor to work too hard (draw too many amps, get too hot then cool down and, start up again check the relay it is located on the side of the motor on most motors; under a cover; unless the motor is bad the relay may just be too sensitive (old) and, may need to be replaced.
hook up a garden hose to a faucet. Put the other end in your spa. Then turn on the faucetuntil water comes out the spa end of hose. Make sure the end in the spa is weighted down so it doesn't come out. Then remove the hose from the faucet and keeping it lower than the spa lay the hose where it can drain with causing problems. The water will flow on its own draining the spa. You may want to clean it while its draing so the dirty water will be diluted and drain at thhe same time. Make sure the water is not drained out around any electrical AND!!! NO DIVING!!!! If you lose the prime, just fill the hose again with the faucet. Good luck
The heater will only fire if it has water in it. If you just got the house, make sure the gas/electric to the heater is on. Turn off the pump and turn it back on.. See if that works. good luck
