How about upgrading/replacing the bios on the NEC Powermate Eco? My computer crashed hard, I need to replace the bios, I am getting the 1-2-2-3 beep instead of a boot up. Substituted the hd and ram, neither did the job. Know what chip it is the bios chip? And how to flash the bios? There is no floppy drive. Will flash thumb drive work?
Thanks, I found the chip, it is soldered, and I found on the web where people had replaced the chip with a socket so you do not need no re-solder the chip. Need to find a socket an a means to flash. I might try coreboot. http://www.coreboot.org/Thanks, I found the chip, it is soldered, and I found on the web where people had replaced the chip with a socket so you do not need no re-solder the chip. its the BIOS that checks the hard drive, if you don't want this message you can disable smart feature in bios itself, but i think its better if you replace your hard drive because it will crash
You have one of two problems. Either your operating system crashed and you will need to get windows reinstalled on the computer or your hard drive crashed. If the hard drive crashed you will need to replace the hard drive first and then also reinstall windows. In both cases it is needed to reinstall windows. This is probably something a computer technician should take care of.
Upgrade the BIOS regardless, and yes check if by A23 release the hard drive you are trying to install will be supported.
You are several BIOS versions behind.

If the hard drive have crashed meaning that the hard drive itself is damaged, then your solution is to replace a new harddrive. If you do have a recovery disc already made, or one is provided then you will have to use that disc once the hard drive is replaced with the new one, and follow the procedure to reinstalled the operating system. If the original hard drive had crash and does no work anymore (where the bios/computer cannot detect it) and you have important data that you would like to retrive, there are places such as office depot, bestbuy, where they can help you send it to a recovery file center to recover files from your damaged hard drive. Do not attemp to fix or open a damaged harddrive, you can forever damage the files on the cyclinder disc. 2) Now if your harddrive crash in term as windows just crashing and you cannot get into your operating system and the bios is still able to detect the hard drive, and it's giving you a error message, then you will only need to reinstall, or do a windows recovery through your recovery disc, If you do not have a recovery or made the disc, then you will need to buy a new operating system software. If you computer does not start meaning no display on the screen at all, then please replay back. That is a different story.
you would need to get the manual for this computer as the manual should state in it what type of hard drive it supports in terms of capacity and what connector types it needs ie IDE or SATA ?
Also are there any bios updates for this computers motherboard as that may resolve you not being able to attach a large capacity hard drive also in the bios see if you can enable LBA (logical block addressing ) http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/bios/modesLBA-c.html or there may be another setting in the bios which may help you.
Can you remove the hard drive from the computer, write down the details that read on top of it, and also if you could look at the connectors and tell me the details so I can make sure I direct you at a proper replacement.
These are operating system errors. Start by doing a check disc from the bios or set up. The check disc is a hard drive test, if anything fails then you have a hard drive crash and you will need to replace the hard drive. If it passes, then you will need to run a repair on the operating system using your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any hang ups or issues during or after the repair then you will need to completely reload a fresh copy of the operating system.
Let me start by saying, this message is usually an indicator that the hard drive has failed and needs replacing. Sometimes you can get away with an operating system reload, but more often is hard drive replacement.
To check the bios settings, you will need to enter the bios at start up. There will be a screen that tells you which button to press (usually F2) in order to go into the bios or utility set up. Some machines don't give you much time to do this, so you'll need to be quick. When in the bios, check to see if the hard drive is enabled, if there is that option, some don't have the option.
If the hard drive crashed or failed it wasn't your son's fault, it would have crashed no matter who was using it at the time. Hard drives do this, they have a small electrical motor in them, and just like the starter on your car, they work or they don't, and will fail without warning.
I have seen this issue before.... When you update the bios you need to reset the BIOS settings otherwise it is using an invalid set of options, you need to enter BIOS and load Defaults, (usually by pressing f9) hopefully after that your system should load properly...
