Lost my prime in my pump, i have tried numerouse time fill the basket area with water turn on pool pump nothing, any more suggestions. I lost my prime to my pump a few weeks ago . I had a pool company come out and check for leaks . There were none . They also said my pump was working fine too. My symptons are that the basket gets filled so it is taking in water . From the skimmer basket it does not fill into the filter . I removed the filter and tried priming also . This did not work. . Does anyone have any other ideas . It is very frustrating . Dotrat47

I have a similar problem. I have a new motor, and the pump was working fine for a couple weeks. Just recently, the pump will no longer hold its prime. I dump water in, but it's quickly gone - and no water is moving. I have a DE filter, and have completely dismantled and cleaned that to be sure nothing's blocked in there. The motor purrs away, but nothing happens. I'm completely stumped on where to look for a fix. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Prime

Hi to prime your pump you fill the strainer basket with water and make sure all connections are tight with no leaks. Once you seal the lid turn on your pump and it should prime. If you have an issue you can force water through the suction line by putting a hose in the skimmer and force the water through your suction line. Time to Open the Swimming Pool

Is there enough water in the pool 1/2 way up the skimmer flap to prime the lines, Are the skimmers clogged? Are all valves in their correct position? Have you checked the gasket on the top of the filter? Is the spring weak/broken, handle should have some tension, has the gasket rolled, torn or slid?

if this is a flooded suction and when it turns on it keeps pushing all the water out faster than it is coming in you may have a pump that is too big for the size of the line coming in.
also look to make sure you have nothing plugging the lines going into the front of the pump.

How to prime my Pool?

Prime is the term we use to state that the air has been mostly purged from the pump and the pump is moving water. When you have lost the prime, your pump is no longer pumping water through it. Sometimes it can be very difficult to regain the prime on the pump. This will tell you how to get the prime back in these difficult situations
