Whenever i turn the archos 504 on the title screen comes on then after a while it says revovery (code 2) Would you like to recover it? It has 3 options No, Repair, and Format Disk, I have tried all three and none of them work how do I fix it?
SOURCE: Recovery (code 2)
I got the same message when I took out the hard drive. I'm sure this will void any warrant, but maybe you should open it up and make sure the hard drive ribbon is secure.
This is a recovery mode, and this menu allows you to:
-Format your hard drive
-Restore your system
In case of repair disk is selected :
For the first step you have to go on our website, and download the latest firmware update for your product.
Plug your Archos 504/604 on the computer and copy the firmware previously downloaded at the root of your device.
Disconnect your device as usual, and select done on the screen.
You have to plug the dc adaptor to update successfully, press a button to reboot your device.here is the web address http://www.archos.com/support/support_tech/updates.html?country=us&lang=en&#firm836 views

I have the same problem and my Archos 504 80GB
is only a few months old. Anybody got any ideas?
I have the same problem did you figure something out?
ame problem
same problem. still not know what to do :(
Likewise. This occurred, for me, after a small impact. Due to the shaky nature of the hard drive (I've been getting formatting and FAT drive errors from the first month) I'm inclined to think it just quit on me for good.
My 504 40gb archos displays "System is damaged. Would you like to recover it?" and than theres 3 options; No, Repair, or Format disk, but none of these options work. Also is says Recovery (code2) on the top.
I dropped my Archos 504 on the floor (not a steep drop), and the next time I turned it on, I got the message "Recovery (code 2) System is damaged. Would you like to recover it? No/Repair/Format disk". Even after doing a hard reset, the message still comes up.
i have the same problem
