Balance ring I have a top load washer & I know there's liquid in the balance ring to help stabilize the washer during spinning but recently I've been hearing a different noise along with the water. I accidently washed a coin and it sounds like it's in the balance ring. Is this possible or did something come loose inside the ring itself?

SOURCE: Leak from maytag top load coin machine during spin drain cycle only

Possible that you would have a tub seal leak if it is only noticable during spin cycle. Possible that it "drips" slightly while in agitation, but not enough to notice it. While in spin mode you have a lot more parts moving as well as a lot more water pressure on the seal itself. Pump could also be leaking, but highly doubtful since it would leak a constant amount at all times. Good Luck!!! Jim

SOURCE: Whirlpool washing machine, top load

hi without further investigation its a bit hit or miss , does the whole tub tilt or is it just the inner drum ?
if its just the inner drum then it sounds like the bearings are on there way out
if its the whole tub then it could be one of the springs that it hangs from or the shock absorber underneath that may have come adrift
hope this helps

old duets have nut on rear pulley that becomes loose. remove rear panel and tighten nut. check while spinning by hand if pop is felt. if it rotates smoothly then you may need new shocks on tub

SOURCE: Walking during the spin cycle

My GE front load washer model WCVH6800JBB have the same problem. I just purchased and installed it yesterday, 05/04/09. Just like everyone said... when it got to the spinning cycle it walked to the middle of my garage and all the connections in the back of the machine fell off. My husband checked the instruction... There are 4 nut bolts in the back of the machine near the rubber leg (level). You need to take them off and try to balance your machine again. My washer is running very smooth now. Good luck!

My washer walks when in spin cycle, up to 18"out. I tried leveling the washer and making sure clothes are distributed evenly. Why does it still walk?

What brand washer do you have? Model number would be helpful. For example GE top load washers have a liquid filled ring around the top of the spin basket. I have seen these crack and the liquid leaks out causing machines to walk. The ring is replaceable on most models. Some washers have 4 rods holding the complete suspension up on a spring system. Rods are at each corner. Could be a bad rod-spring system in one of the corners. These are just suggestions since I don't know what you have.

Is it normal for liquid to be present in the top part of the drum?

Yes I have this type of washer and it has the water in a ring at the top of the drum to help balance it out during spin, not quite sure why but yes it should be there. The gargling sound you describe could also be the balancing hooks that attach the drum to the top of the washer which sometimes make strange noises but there fine.

Maytag mah55flbwq not draining

Perfectly normal..
What you are actually hearing is a balance ring on the inner tub that has liquid inside to help keep washing loads balanced.
The balance ring is filled with a calcium chloride solution and baffles within the ring allow the fluid to disperse within the ring evenly
By rotating the spin basket you can hear the fluid dispersing within the baffles of the balance ring.

I also thought ours was not draining properly but discovered otherwise when I had to take the inner tub out for a bearing repair job..
Hope this puts your mind at rest..

What is the liquid in the top ring of washer

its called "Calcium-Chloride",its a type of salt water mixture put in these rings to dampen "OFF-Balance" loads in the washer, and the reason for this type of mixture is so people that store or operate the machine in below freezing temps do not have a solid off balance chunk of ice that wont balance the machine during operation or break the ring when it freezes

Is some water in the tub of a top loading washer normal?

It is normal to have residual water in the drain lines and pump following a wash cycle. This is the low point of the drain cycle and gravity will ALWAYS cause some water to be there. As long as the water is not visible in the spin basket, you have nothing to worry about.

Some model washers also have a balance ring around the perimeter on top of the wash tub that is filled with fluid. This acts as a stabilizer to help keep the washer balanced during the spin cycle. If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

I hear water in the washing machine when move it and think maybe water is building up in the machine. What should I do?

What you are hearing is the liquid inside the balance ring at the top of the wash tub. You could set the machine in the center of your driveway and drain every drop of water from the hoses and pump, yet you would still hear the liquid in the balance ring when the machine (more specifically, the inner tub) is moved. It needs to be there to help balance out of balance wash loads.

Kenmore Oasis washer model 110.27032600; trapped hidden water

when you tipped the washer was the drain hose still attached? and if so was the drain hose elevated? most top load washers will have an amount of leftover water in the bottom of the tub. with the drain hose off and the washer tipped towards the rear you should lose any excess water. also try to open the top of the agitator to see if there is any water trapped there. hope this helps....

You can hear water still in the washer - not inside the tub where you put the clothes but inside the washer machine.

I believe you are referring to a GE top loading washer. GE uses a liquid filled balance ring around the top of the washer to help compensate for off balance load. The sound is perfectly normal.
