Solution that worked for me:
Beware: Although the process should be safe, it technically voids your warranty.
Enter the service menu:
1 - turn of tv with remote
2 - press and release in the following order on the remote: Info, Menu, Mute. Make sure remote is pointing at the tv
3 - turn on the tv from the remote
4 - you will see the service menu. using the down arrow on the remote
select the Reset option. Using the right arrow button at this point
will do a hard reset.
5 - Wait a few seconds, turn TV on
6 - you will have to rescan analogue and digital channel but it should be working now.

Set TV to standby and press Info, menu, mute then power. The set should turn on with the service menu available scroll down until you select reset press right hand arrow next to enter and then enter. TV will turn off. When switched on it goes into Plug and Play mode to reset the analogue and digital tuner. Allow a full reset then you should be ok.

I followed your suggestion and it works! You certainly do push the
info
menu
mute
power buttons but I cannot remember the exact order.
I may have pressed them altogether, or in a quick sequence and it may have been in standby mode or switched on.
Fiddle with it, because it does work.
What will happen is that you will get a set of commands on the screen. Use the remote to get to RESET. At first I coudn't get this to work as I kept pressing the "enter" button in an attempt to select this option, but actually you just need to press the right arrow button to select it.
Reset comes into place. Wait a while and press a channel number, then just re-tune. You will have to re-tune anologue and digital. This works - please share with others. Eamonn

ensure the tv is in analogue mode, not dtv and turn it off. with the remote: press info then, menu, then mute then power. these buttons need to be pressed sequentially not all at the same time and in quick succession. a menu will appear on the tv. navigate to the reset option and press the left arrow key on the remote (or press the enter/ok button) the tv will reset itself and turn off. turn the tv back on & it'll re tune all its channels. DTV should be working again.

just spoke to Samsung support and it turns out that the freeview tuner had froze and needed resetting. To do this put TV on standby and then push in series these buttons on the remote: 'info, menu, mute, power' the TV will then turn itself on and display a menu. Press the 'down arrow' untill you've highlighted option 12 - 'reset' and then press the 'right arrow' to enter the option. TV will turn off and when you turn back on it will start in 'plug & play' mode as if new. Set the time and country options and then it will perform a complete scan. I've just retuned mine and all back to normal. Hoorah!!!! :-)
