It was recommended by a local mechanic to use Royal Purple, and so I have been using Royal Purple SAE 5W-30 with any oil filter on my 2003 Volvo S60 Turbo. It has 105,600 miles. Is this recommended for the type of the engine in my car?

Your Volvo has been certified to standards using ILSAC oil specification GF-2 5W-30. Volvo recommends use of oil with a quality rating equal to or higher than ILSAC GF-2. Royal Purple is compatible with fully synthetic oils so you can change over with no damage to your engine. You can go to the official site and they can give you all the options as far as what your looking for specifically.

Specs say:

SAE 5W-30 is preferred

If you start with synthetic, you have to stick with synthetic.

I personaly would run amsoil 5w-30 or royal purple 5w-30. Those are a full synthetic and I can tell you from experience they are great. I run Royal Purple in my silverado and Amsoil in my cbr 600rr. Also, from independant studies done on Royal Purple and Amsoil they can go longer between oil changes then most oils. Royal Purple has been tested after driving 22,500 miles and still could be used if you wanted to leave it in the engine. I usually change mine around every 10,000 to 12,000 miles.

Look on the oil fill cap. Write down what it says then call around to find out who has this class of oil.You might even call the Chevy dealer and ask for the service manager, ask him .I like the Castrol Syntec 10w-30 for my 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo.
