To check for water in the gas, drain about half a quart or a quart into a glass jar, and let it set for awhile, maybe 2-4 hours. If there's water, it will settle out to the bottom.

As far as any engine manuals. The engine type model and series are stamped into the air shroud not far from the spark plug wire. http://www.briggsandstratton.com Type in your engine model type series and you can download you parts and engine manual.

The easiest way is with an impact wrench. If you don't have one there is usually a hole in the disc where you can insert a screw driver to lock it from turning.
