SOURCE: Canon IXUS 100IS - 'Lens error, restart camera' message

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

SOURCE: Canon PowerShot A480 won't take photo.

its just a matter of batteries...some are not powerful enough to operate the camera ....Try to change them and buy some real good ones..like Duracell or Tatra...do not make any compromises when buy the batteries...get the best cause these kinda cameras really require powerful ones...or ...try to get a set of rechargeable ...

SOURCE: My camera says Err 30 turn off and on and re-install battery. this doesn't seem to work....any advice?

Remove the battery, press and hold the power button, or turn the power switch to ON position(depends on the option available in your Camera) for more than 30 Seconds and then reinsert the battery to resolve the issue.

When i am using canon ixus 105 in auto mode than there is a sound coming from camera and the display automatically switched off after 1 minute.plz solve this problem

Hello Swadesh,

Pressing the DISP button while turning on the camera power will turn off all sounds except warning sounds. To turn the sounds on , press the MENU button, choose the ii tab, and then choose mute. Press the <> buttons to choose off.

Confirm that battery is not depleted.
Confirm that battery is properly inserted.
Confirm that battery/memory card cover is securely closed.
If the battery terminals are dirty , battery performance will decrease. Clean the battery terminals and reinsert the battery again many times.

It's been sittting for quite a whils with the battery out. With a freshly-charged battery, it won't start up now, pressing and hlding buttons gets only a second of display.

Insert freshly charged batteries, Turn camera "ON" then remove batteries. While batteries removed, press and hold the shutter button for about 30 seconds. Insert batteries, turn "ON" then press the reset button on the bottom of the camera.

I can take photo.. but i can't see it.. display problem. how much it will cost? ixus 8515

Cost of repair would be probably more than the camera is now worth. But is the screen just showing black? An issue with the tiny SD10/20/30/40... cameras (IXUS versions also) was that sometimes a little corrosion could form on the A/V plug switch that would in effect simulate the plug being inserted, thus turning off the screen. If you have your television video plug available, try inserting and removing the plug in its A/V port a few times. If this is the problem with your camera, sometimes this helps remove that corrosion, setting things right again.

My canon digital ixus i the lens will not move when i turn it on.

Try hard reset . Remove the batteries and insert new batteries . Sometimes this may work

Another chance is that lens is struck
  • Carefully inspect around it for dirt or debris
  • If you see any dirt or debris around the lens, use canned air to gently blow it away
  • After removing dirt and debris, turn the camera on and off
This should work
Hope this helps .
If your problem still continues you need to take to service center .

Thanks for using FIxya

Ixus 75 battery discharges overnight even if the camera is turned off.

That's it, the battery's defective, it's not the camera...unless you've tried another (new) battery...

Won't turn on

Dear Michibear

Open the battery door , there should be a small button
( right next to SD Memory card on my IXUS 60 )
It tells the camera when door is open & disables power to the camera .Its very weakly made & is responsible for alot of people's problems I have seen so far, including myself !!

The one on my IXUS 60 just magically fell out and landed down the drain whilst I was just changing a battery , and the camera ceased to function. With the button itself gone the copper wire terminals were visible. I used a small pair of scissors and pushed them together and it instantly resumed working, & still does.

I'd recommend using a piece of aluminium foil , or any other conductive material folded up and inserted into the cavity to connect all the copper prongs together.

Im not going to tell you to pull your button out, BUT,
Upon seeing inside it, I'm confident that even when still intact , it'd be really easy for it to malfunction....

Samsung camera not turning on.

First make sure you batteries are strong.

Then this is not a great solution, but try this. 1) Remove the battery. 2) Hold down the power button and wait 30 seconds...but keep holding the button. 3) After 30 seconds and while holding the button down insert the batteries and then close the compartment. It should come on.

I managed to duplicate the problem by opening the battery compartment with the camera turn on and then if I put them back it would turn on and the lense does not retract.

Good Luck

Camera won't turn on

Please make sure the memory card is properly connected. Remove it and insert it again. Check if the battery is properly inserted in the camera. Remove the battery and wipe it with a dry cloth. If your camera uses AAA rechargable batteries ensure the polarity is correct when you insert them in the camera.
