Why won't my EU2000i Honda generator start after I replaced the starter rope? It has compression and fuel but no spark.

Under the lid you probley pinched a wire and have it grounded out

Testimonial: "I found a pinched wire, but it didn't show that it had shorted because there was no bare copper showing, just flattened insulation. It still has no spark after repositioning the wire away from the pinch point. is there a solid state igniter that could have been damaged during reassembly?"

Also, how is a wire shorted to ground when everything is plastic?

  • goldminer_ro Oct 22, 2013

Time to remove the cover and check for continuity through the wire that was pinched.

Tested the pinched wire. It has continuity and goes to a ground terminal. Tested the on/off switch has no continuity in either position. Now to find a switch!

You may need to replace the magneto. Try finding one on ebay or something. Get the model number off of the engine and go on eBay and find a magneto and replace it and it should work

Testimonial: "That sound like a logical assumption, but the on/off switch doesn't have continuity in either position."

My Honda eu2000i shuts down after 30 seconds and have to restart 4 times before it will continue to run normally, does it mostly in the cold Canada winters

it is not any kind of car or truck,so moved you to portable elect gas generators.
does it burn gas/petrol or LPG?
with engine stalled, oil lamp on is 100% normal
but never at the time of stall (or just before)
the oil pump runs off the crankshaft is why.
new spark plug is cure. i bet.
or use chock longer.
carb, gasoline , petrol.
if spark tip is in raw fuel , turn off chock and crank it dry.
the gen has many buttons switches make sure all are set correct for sure on./off .
is it elect starter or hand cord cranked or both?

I have a deep eu2000i inverter, the problem is to remove the carburetor throttle, it takes some kind of setting as to start the engine low speed, and connect a tool fails ....

if your question is that my Honda generator wont idle up when I connect a load (tool) and it stalls then . first see if unit will run on constant setting (switch on front) if nothing or still barely runs or stalls , then your problem is carb or fuel filter (inside tank) one or both is most likely dirty and needs replaced/cleaned

What do I check? i have a honda eu2000i that starts and runs but no generator power

The internal monitor is sensing a load does a load make it change tone? Check the 12 v output and see if it is loaded.

It won't start. I put in fresh fuel, carb is good get's air & fuel but will not start. what could this be?

Three main things are needed for all small engines to run: Compression, spark, and fuel. I would purchase a compression tester and a spark tester from a local auto parts store. Both are reasonably priced and easy to use. Compression tester screws into spark plug threads, then you simply pull starter rope a few times until needle on gauge stops rising and observe reading. You should have at least 60 psi and should hold awhile. Next, screw in spark plug and hook up spark tester inline, pull handle and observe spark tester. Next, check for obstructions in fuel lines to carb. These simple steps will lead you in the right direction instead of guessing. Good luck. Keep me posted with results and I can help you further.

I have a eu2000i honda generator that will not start. It is getting spark and will fire when I put a little gas in the cylinder. It is obviously not getting gas, but I don't know what to do about

needle valve stuck.on the bottom of the carb there is a bolt holding the bowl. inside there is a needle valve attached to the float. hondas have a spring loaded rubber tipped needle valve and tends to get stuck in storage(unless it is left empty this will happen almost every time) check seals on bolt and bowl before re installing .

Won't start ; i have spark, fuel

It takes 3 things for an internal combustion engine to run... compression, spark, and fuel.
First perform a compression test. If its under 90psi the compression is too low and it would cost more to repair than to replace.
Sidenote: A unit that is extremely flooded will give a false low compression reading. Remove the spark plug, turn unit upside down so that spark plug hole is facing down and slowly pull the starter rope. If fuel drips out then the crankcase is flooded with fuel.
Next, be sure that your fuel is fresh and free of water. If the fuel is more than 20 days old it is stale.
Also, holding the spark plug against the head is not an accurate test for spark. A failed spark plug or weak module will fire when not under a load but will not fire when in the cylinder environment under compression. A spark tester is the best way to know for sure that you have a good strong spark.
Lastly, something you can do which requires no special tools is check the condition of the cylinder/ piston. Remove the spark plug then remove the muffler and look into the cylinder. You can pull the starter rope slowly to move the piston up and down. Observe the wall of the cylinder and the side of the piston. They should be smooth and shiny. A dull grey appearence indicates debris ingestion, grooves ( also called scoring) indicate metal to metal contact caused by a break down of the oil due to heat or lack of oil. The presence of scoring means that the unit is not cost effective to repair and should be replaced. Dull grey usually means low compression too.
