Apple MacBook Air Logo
Bobbi Attwood Posted on Oct 22, 2013

I have a MacBook Air, OS X, using Safari. I have been away from Macs for 10 years and just bought the laptop, so trying to reintroduce myself. I can't find where to turn off the pop up blocker for certain uses.

Block pop-ups on webpages

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open.
  2. Choose Safari > Preferences, and then click Security.
  3. Turn on "Block pop-up windows."

Blocking pop-up windows stops only those windows that appear when you open or close a page. It does not block pop-up windows that open when you click a link.

If you block pop-up windows, you might miss important information for a webpage. For example, a website that provides services to you might use a pop-up window to request your user name.

Block unnecessary webpage content

  1. Open Safari if it is not already open.
  2. Choose Safari > Preferences, and then click Security.
  3. In the "Web content" section, select or deselect types of content you want to block or enable. For an explanation of the options, click the Help button (looks like a question mark).

Go into your FF preferences. Go to Content Panel.
You should see-"Exceptions this is a list of sites that you want to allow to display pop-ups.

List your sites there.

Also,
when you go to a site that wants to give you a pop up window, a yellow bar will display at the top of your window. In the right hand corner if you click on it, you can choose to allow that site to show you pop ups.

What is the specifications os serial number C02MG06VF5V7

it came with 10.8 (https://checkcoverage.apple.com using your serial number and https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204319), but Maverick, Yosemite, and El Capitan are all free upgrades (the next three OS sequentially)

or you mean "of" (and not "OS"), in which case, Macs are configurable when you buy them, but your options are laid out here:

How do i enable popups in SurgeWeb?

Hi, not sure about this app, but if it is web based, I will assume it runs on Safari. Have you enabled popups in Safari? Also, I would try with another browser like Chrome or Firefox. Make sure you are not running any 3 rd party popup blockers!
For future reference, it help us to know a bit more about your Mac, like what OS X is running and Safari version, if it is updated, etc.

My safari crashes on my laptop after about 10 seconds. I've tried several times. I've also tried to download again. I have a Macbook Pro, OS version 10.5.8, Processor 2.4 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo,...

The first thing you should try is resetting the PRAM, this can be done by following this guide.

Then use the Finder to view your User/Library/Cookies/ folder, and drag the Cookies.plist file to the trash. now try Safari again.

If that cures the problem, then we know the cookies file was the reason.

Unfortunately you may lose various website settings and passwords, that were stored in the cookies.

If the problem still persists after this I would try calling apple support.

Why does safari doesn't support my community bar any more?

This solution is kind of a cop out, but FWIW (for what it's worth): 1. Make sure you have the latest version of Safari.
2.) You may want to consider using Firefox or Google's Chrome browser.
Firefox is available at www.getfirefox.com
Chrome is available at www.google.com/chrome
I don't even use Safari on my Macs. Firefox is more widely supported, in my experience.

I can open internet explorer, but my weather and skype programs are working normal, I know I have a god connection, also when I try to access the internet options to change my browser it just blinks then...

As of December 31, 2005, Microsoft no longer provided support for Internet Explorer for Mac.

As a result, Microsoft recommended all users of IE for Mac, use either Safari, or any other 3rd party, Mac compatible browser. Here are 3 of the more popular made for Mac browsers, widely used with Macs as well as Safari 4.0:
  • Firefox for Mac v3.6
  • Camino for Mac v2.0.1
  • Opera for Mac v10.10
All of these browsers are free downloads and are easy to via Google or any other web search engine you like to use.

Because you should have Safari built in, I would recommend you access that web browser, by going into Finder > Applications> Safari and launching that web browser.

This should enable you to continue surfing online, despite the IE setback.

Let me know if this data is helpful to you.

Thanks!

The Updates Mac OS X and Safari Updates can't be Installed.

The latest Safari 4.0.3 requires MacOS 10.5.7 or 10.5.8. Which versions are you using? In fact, all Safari 4 versions including betas require at least 10.5.6. Otherwise IIRC the latest was 3.2.3 of Safari. It should have said that it was not compatible but you may want to go to VersionTracker.com or Apple and check the requirements.
Also run Disk Utility and Verify the disk and Fix the permissions before and after every install. If the Verify gives errors, you will need to boot from your CD/DVD (SOL on MacBook Air, hope you have an external boot disk or drive) and Repair the disk before working on permissions. There are some "errors" shown for permissions that can be ignored, they have used links (lrw...) where it expects none. -Ken
