We have a pride jazzy 1143 select power chair. we have had problems with the batteries going bad. I purchased a new set of batteries last December. in June they would not hold a charge and I purchased a new set. in September they too would not hold a charge and failed a load test. I was told that the charger was probably bad that it was putting out an excess charge. I purchased new batteries and an outside charger. However the problem is again recurring. the batteries are progressively declining. what might be the problem. The current charger battery setup will not charge the battery to the full 3 green bar charge. by the end of the day it is down to 2 flashing red bars. this is a major departure from when we purchased the chair (used) two years ago. my email is [email protected]. Thanks

SOURCE: Just bought 2nd hand jazzy select 6 ultra v v slow !!

The unit can be programmed to run faster. Stop in to the local powerchair dealer in your area. Very quick and inexpensive fix. I would charge you only for my time. About 10minutes max.

SOURCE: I have a pride go chair that is only one year old.

The small batteries (17 Amp hour I believe) are notorious for lasting a year and often much less. I consistently replace the original OEM batteries supplied with this chair at the 6 month point. The manufacturer warrants these sealed gel lead acid batteries for only 6 months. Try the AGM (advanced glass mat ) batteries and you should get better life out of them. They might be more expensive at retail pricing but your insurance should pay for the better batteries in my experience. Make sure the charger replaced under warranty is the correct amperage for these small batteries otherwise the output could burn the battery plates.

SOURCE: Why do the batteries on

I would check the weight limit on the chair first ,You should be able to see that in your handbook given with the chair.
Second I would see about load testing those battery's ,Go into a auto parts store ,or battery store if in fact you don't own a load tester. make sure both battery's can take a load if not that may be your problem.

Good luck happy to help.

Jazzy select is swaying side to side when going forward like it has too much play in the joystick

Check your tire inflation and treads to make sure they can grip the floor/ground without slipping. Make sure that any keystock/keylock needed is installed on the axle, sometimes they slip out. Are your batteries fully charged and in good condition? Are you over the weight limit for the power chair?
Is there any noise or vibration coming from the power chair as you operate it? A grinding sound may indicate bad bearings in the caster wheels and cause problems in steering. A chirping sound may indicate a bad motor, they may be losing power and are not able to move the power chair evenly.
If your insurance purchased the power chair for you, they may also cover the repairs; contact them for information.
Good luck!

Jazzy select hasnt been charged over a long period and now batteries are not charging manuel says they may not charge to call provider what will be done can they be charged again?

Virginia sorry no. Your charger cannot pickup low batteries and charge them. You will have to purchase 2 new U1 batteries. If Medicare purchased your chair then they will pay for most of the cost of new batteries. If you bought the chair then I would look for a battery warehouse type store or an Interstate battery store and buy them there they would be somewhat cheaper than buying them from a provider. Hope this helps you

I need a wiring diagram for a mini Jazzy 1143 power chair. The controller cable was chewed in two by a dog and ther seems to be more wires than connection points.

I think it would be easier for you to contact pride mobility or your provider and have then send you a new cable. If Medicare purchased your chair then they will pay for the repair Hope this helps

Hi

Rapid flash of lights indicates a fault in the VSI or the electrical system. You need to refer to " VSI Error Codes" on page#32 of this User Manual:

Go to turn the power on the controller of a Jazzy 1143. The lights on the controller flash and no power goees to the chair. Have checked all connections and still nothing works.

Flashing lights indicates a fault. Here' the users manual which contains the fault codes for the flashing lights. Repost with more info re: the fault codes. Good Luck.
