Canon PowerShot SD750 / IXUS 75 Digital Camera Logo

My Canon Powershot A560 memory card is locked and it is the camera doing it not the memory stick. And there is nothing in the manual about how to fix it. When I turn on my camera I get an error message"memory card error" then when i press to view pictures it says the memory card is locked and turns itself off. I have had this camera for some time and have never had issues uploading pictures onto my computer or with the memory card.I really would rather not lose the pictures that are on the camera, but want to solve this problem. Thanks.

Remove the memory card from the camera. Note that there is a small slide switch on one of the long edges of the card. Slide the switch to unlock or lock the card.

I don't understand what you want, but if you want to remove the grid go to menu > Disp. Overlay and select none. I hope this helps...

SOURCE: computer won't upload photos from

Used my "Windows Update" application and ran it-Camera was "plugged in" with my USB cable while I ran the update ( camera was off ). Must have been related to the driver for my Canon. Whatever it was-it fixed it.

As a solution I highly recommend that you forego the old cable to the camera route, and instead consider a card reader to download your photos to your computer. Card readers are very inexpensive, much much faster downloading photos from the camera, do not use the camera's batteries during download, and are much less prone to file corruption of the photos during the download.

You place the camera's card in the reader, and your computer sees it as a hard drive. You simply copy/paste or drag/drop your photos onto your hard drive. For all of these reasons, most professional photographers utilize card readers exclusively. Really, you'll save yourself a lot of headache. Here are some examples from Amazon. Also, don't be fooled by the cost. some of the cheap ones work just fine. Go by the reviews. Also make sure you get a reader that is stated capable of reading your card (particularly if you have an SDHC card):

For international readers, here's another source for card readers (free international shipping too :-)

Actually, you don't need software for an USB cable too. If you have Windows XP, it sees your camera right away and would ask you what to do with that device.

SOURCE: in using windows 7, how

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Windows Photo Gallery or any other photo cataloging program.

How do I unlock the card powershot A560

I guess that perhaps your memory card is an SD type. These cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Memory card error==card locked. How do I fix it?

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My Canon PowerShot A560 says that the memory card is locked...even after I change the batteries. What can I do to fix it?

Have you tried the switch on the side of the SD card in both positions? Failing that, the camera will need a new SD slot fitted by repairer.

Remove the SD card from the camera. Slide the tiny slide switch on the side of the card to the other "unlocked" position. Reinsert the card in the camera. That should do it.

Your memory card has a small white "switch" on the side. Move the switch and your card will unlock. It is a saftey so you don't erase anything accidentaly.
