I actually got the wrong error code, I read it again and it said SAB, and when I found the manual it said to hold down the Clock key for 3 seconds and that did the trick.

Thanks for trying to help, sorry for giving the incorrect error code.

Error code 5A6 on range display. Held down the clock key for several seconds and the code blinked two or three times then cleared back to the clock display. Thanks for the info.

I have the same problem - ish. Our oven is acting the same but without displaying the SAB error. Occasionally if we hit clock or bake it will beep. Once my husband hit bake and the bake like came on, but no temperature numbers showed. The oven heated up for a while, then when I cancelled it we went back to no beeps, no lights. Any ideas? I need my oven back!

My range showed a code of 5A6, I held the clock key down for a few seconds and it corrected itself.

Yes hold the clock key for several seconds and it resets, how unpluging or flipping the swith in the electrical box does not reset it.

Try unplugging the oven, this should reset the unit.

What looks like a 5a6 is actually a "sab" which stands for "sabbath mode". I have seen this in several brands and models. there is always a way to enter the sab mode and exit it. usually by holding the clock key down for a short time. this can be done accidentaly.

We had some sort of electric power failure last night lasting only a few seconds, but now none of the control buttons on the gas range function. In the time window 5a6 shows. No way to use the oven.

Skip,

The fact that the display is 'ON' confirms you have power.

The displayed info probably is a 'code' for a fault/problem, but you did not provide a brand nor a model. Even if you had, odds are I do not have access to the list of codes & their meanings.

Try unplugging the plug from the wall receptacle. If you cannot reach the power cord next option would be locate the circuit breaker (single pole) which HOPEFULLY is labeled. Either way, try removing / turning OFF power for at least 10-20 seconds! The control's microprocessor may be locked up due to a very short power interruption.

If that does not reset it, I would call service or the manufacture. You can TRY requesting help over the phone FIRST! Good LUCK

THE OVEN WILL NOT HEAT UP WHEN I PRESS TOUCH PAD MODE TO BAKE OR BOIL. INSTEAD IT SHOWS 5 A 6.

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

5A6 is not a error code and is displayed when the unit is set up to Sabbath mode. To reset this error code you can press and hould the CLOCK pad which is located below the display for around 15 seconds. If the problem returns then it is recommended to leave the unit unplugged for 72 hrs so that the problem is solved. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Maytag oven shuts off?

Hi. This is a possible touch pad, or EOC(Electronic Oven Control Board) failure code. The test below will help isolate the issue.

This simple test will help determine whether the EOC (Electronic Oven Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when F1 error code is present.

Note: Some models incorporate the touch pad in to the EOC as a single assembly, in which case this test is not necessary. Simply replace the EOC (Clock).

Warning: If you feel in any way uncomfortable performing this test or making this repair, please contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing.

2. Gain access inside the control panel.

3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC.

4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was.

5. Turn the power back on.

6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).

7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

F1 Error on Maytag Electric Oven

Found something on the net that said it may be a heat sensor so I returned my new touch pad ($220) and put in my old one that was giving me the F1error. I bought a heat sensor ($55) and crossed my fingers. It WORKED! F1 was no longer flashing and the oven's back up and running.. so much for the error codes.. F1 = touch pad and F4 was supposed to be the sensor..

If you're fixing it yourself and think it may be the touch pad, I recommend going through SEARS. Even though the touch pad was an electrical part they still allowed me to return it hassle free and most companies wont accept returns if it wasn't installed by one of their service professionals. So I was more than happy to get the $220 back when it turned out to be the heat sensor. Only downfall is that I had to wait 2 weeks to get the part. Hope this helps anyone with the same error.
