Right edge fades to black (Approx 2")

Just a few weeks ago I noticed the right side of the screen, approximately 2 inches of the screen has a dark tint that fades into black. Any ideas?

I'm comfortable taking the TV apart and I can solder but I've never worked on a TV before. Is this something I should attempt? I have a volt-ohm meter but not too sure how I check the capacitors. Any advice?

    Thanks for your help!

  • beerSanta Sep 28, 2007

    yes I do

ok, i'm able to get the tv apart but no idea how to find the horizontal capacitors. i'll look around on the web for schematic, or maybe you have a suggestion?

Ok! you have defective horizontal linearity check horizontal section then check capacitors! like 180uf 200v or 200uf 200v. the problem is defective capacitors!

only capacitors are defective no others!

  • Anonymous Sep 28, 2007

ok do you have an ohm meter? or multi tester?

  • Anonymous Sep 28, 2007

ok! get out the capacitor in the board, the capacitor is have two pins at the side of them have a symbol stripe or arrow that symbol is the negative pin the one is positive! check it to tester with range of X10 or X1K the red prod is to positive pin of capacitor the black prod is to negative prod, if the meter is arch then fast back to zero that is good! then reverse the prod positive to negative negative to positive then the meter is now arch! then suddenly back to zero! odserve the arch of meter.

I have 2 monitors connected to 1 computer using a

satservice, What happens AFTER 15 min of FLASHING?? What did unit do or act like 3-4 weeks ago? Is the screen both BLACK and BLANK? or is screen just black and you can SEE win-desktop if you shine a bright flashlight 1 inch from screen at differnt angles? Can you use your Samsung warranty? Will monitor do same when connected to different KNOWN GOOD prebooted to desktop PC? Are you refering to the "power ON" indicator light on front BEZEL as the FLASHING thing? Need more info, but I suspect "shutdown of units "switch-mode-power-supply" due to detection of FAULT CONDITION having been detected with other circuit or with itself. Little dots on right side of margin (Brother HL-5040)

I would have guessed the trouble shooting steps you first performed. It could still be a bad imaging drum. Or a fuser. Not sure if this model has a replaceable fuser or not.

Hi. i have an LG 42inch plasma, approx 18 months old. about 2 months ago, a green stripe developed down the right hand side of the screen, approx 1.5 inches wide. last week a 2nd stripe the same width...

Sadly, the plasma screen is failing. The green strip is no longer functioning properly and the failures will continue to progress.

If still under warranty, get it exchanged.

Dark Vertical Stripe on Right Edge of Screen

I experienced the same approx. 1/2" vertical stripe on a Viewsonic vx1945 and ATI Radeon x1050 video adapter on Vista Business SP1, but the stripe appeared along the left edge of the screen, instead of right edge. I then temporarily decreased the monitor resolution, and the stripe went away. I then increased the monitor resolution back to its original setting, and the stripe did not re-appear. So, that was the 'fix' in my situation, hope this helps.
