Went to start my tractor and found battery is dead. Jumped the battery and tractor started. I am going to replace battery. Question: My deck did not lower. Is this because the battery was not charged and very week or another problem

No, the deck lowers by an entirely mechanical lever on the side with the notches for height adjustment.

Most likely the linkage is binding and needs cleaned of grass and possibly rust, then oiled.

However that model appears to have an electrical blade engagement system but that isn't relevant because if it is running which it has to be for the blades to turn, then the electrical system has power sufficient to energize the blades.

YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID IT IS SHORTING OUT AS TO THE GAUGE THEY WILL NEVER MOVE AS THE GENERATOR CHARGES ONLY WHEN THE BATTERY HITS 9 VOLTS THEN IT ACTIVATES TO CHARGE BACK TO 12 VOLTS BUT IN SMALL INCREMENTS

Check your charging system as purplewg recommends. Remove the battery, bring it to full charge and take it to an automotive store or battery shop and have them load test the battery to see if it will hold the full charge. Most places will do this free of charge....if your battery is more than two years old it probably needs to be replaced anyway....Autozone carries a really good tractor type battery for about 35 to 40 bucks that has a lot more amp hours power than most batteries you can buy...if you have to replace the battery get one of these....you'll be glad you did !!! I bought one for my personal mower which sees a LOT of use, and it's been in my mower for three and a half years and going strong...Hope this helps...;-D

SOURCE: MOWING DECK WILL NOT "TURN

A wiring diagram and a test light are needed. If you don't have the wiring diagram, use a test light, start at the clutch and work your way back checking for current at each switch/connector. It maybe the ignition switch, there should be one terminal on it that feeds 12v to the clutch curcuit.

could be your ignition switch but thats the best way to find out where its not getting power to.

I have a series model 1018 cub cadet with electric mower deck. After mowing for about 45 minutes, I turned off the tractor for a few minutes. When I tried to restart, the battery was dead. I jumped started...

If you have access to an electric voltmeter, with it running check voltage at the battery. The engine should charge the battery and maintain system voltage so that the electic PTO will function. The electic PTO will not pull in if system voltage is too low.

The tractor will not go forward or backward it starts right up but will not engage

1) The drive belt between the engine and transmission has broken or jumped off a pulley.
OR
2) Your hydrostatic transmission is dead.

DO NOT STICK YOUR FINGERS UP INSIDE A RUNNING MOWER TO SEE IF THE DRIVE BELT IS MOVING.

Cranks sounds like a dead battery but battery is charged wont start and will start if jumped by a truck battery

You may have a dead cell in the battery. Have you had a load test done on it. I use 300 CCA batteries and recommend them on all riding mower. They may cost a little more but well worth the cost.

Engine stalls

DId you remove the existing gas or just topped it off? If you topped it off, I would dump the fuel and replace the fuel filter, after that I would clean the carb (Spray cleaner).
Good luck!

Starter flywheel is not engaging motor

If you blew a fuse you could have a grounded wire someplace. Check the wiring on the solinoid, on the battery, on the lights and anyplace there could have been a bear spot rubbed. If the flywheel does not engage check the flywheel gear on the end of the started to see if it is chewed and worn. These can be replaced easily,
