My rowenta iron keeps shutting down while I'm ironing. What can I do ?

  • Anonymous May 12, 2009

I'm having the same issue. Looks like the automatic shut off kicks in quickly but I have to unplug and replug for it to work for 1 - 2 minutes and then it shuts off again!

SOURCE: Iron spits out rusty water. The iron is a Rowenta

Fill it with a mix of 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Let it set for 30 minutes and steam it out for about 2 minutes. Unplug it and dump it. After it cools colpletely, fill it with water and steam it out. The rust is coming from your water supply, not the iron.

SOURCE: rowenta d1700 red flashes and iron shuts off

I am on my 3rd or 4th Rowenta. I recently bought the Rowenta Effective, Model DX 1700. Once again, I am having the same problem as before, it shuts off after about 30 seconds. From what I am reading, many people are having the same problem. I'm going to have to guess, this is a product defect. Do I contact the company for a refund????

I have rowenta DB5080 iron and if I walk away for one minute it shuts down. Also it doesn't seem to retain its heat level for extended p eriods of time.

They are built to shut off after about 30 sec or so if the iron is not moving and the iron is in pressing position (sole plate down). They shut off if they are not moving and standing with the sole plate vertical, in about 5 minutes. If you move the iron (like ironing) they reheat. If it doing something else the electronic control is defective. It is cheaper to replace than repair.

Rowenta iron will heat up and then shut down. Have to keep plugging and unplugging the iron.

Irons use a potentiometer and thermister to control the heat on the element. One of these components is bad and needs replacing. If the iron's still under warranty, get another one. The cost of service would probably be as much as a new iron, but you could call an appliance repair shop to check.

I have a Rowenta Pro. Iron, model DE-86.1A with auto shut-off. It sticks on auto shut-off. I have to move it around for it to heat up, as indicated by the sensor light on the top.

I believe that is how the safety feature works.

Once the iron detects no movement for a certain period of time (the iron assumes you have finished ironing) the iron will shut of the heating element.

One you have moved it around, the timer should prevent it from auto shutting down for a period of time.

Iron No Longer Heats Up

Recommended solution, gently shake, did not work.

Considering the iron was at a minimum two years old, I decided to purchase another Rowenta. I found the recommended solution documented on a FAQ sheet enclosed with the new iron.

I actually own another Rowenta iron (I now have three) that has the same issue. I will send one iron, the one manufactured in Germany, to a Rowenta Service Center to see if can be repaired - it was the first Rowenta iron I purchased and it provided several good years of service.
