the writing on the bottom piece where it says "electrolux versatility" it looks clear but when you plug the vacuum in it letters turn blue like the vacuum is on but when you hit any of the switches nothing happens. it doesnt turn on or anything. i looken into buying a new switch but they are not easy to find and usually used and not returnable

SOURCE: I have Electrolux Versatility and

Unplug the machine..now if you remove the attachment hose at the body of the vac and feel inside (to the right about an inch) their is a "suction cover" that rotates when the wand is removed (aka using atachments). The cover in your machine is NOT rotating correctly, so it does not get full suction. If you do get some suction from the hose then their is at least a 'small opening' because it has partially rotated. I was able to fix this problem by taking a large screwdriver (1.5 feet long, thick as a pen), inserting it into the small opening (on the suction cover, inside to the right at the top) and forcing the cover down all the way by lifting the screw driver up against the top of the body opening. Seems to have corrected the problem, but may reoccur. If you have NO suction at all then it has failed to rotate whatsoever, and Im not sure how to correct it.

Many vacuums have a switch positioned somewhere by the pivot point that is pressed when the catch is released and the handle taken out of the 90 degree storage position. I haven't worked on an EL8505 but I have fixed a couple other brand / model vacuums that were behaving the same way you describe in your problem. In most cases it is either a perfectly good switch that had moved out of position because the framing it is supposed to sit in is broke or worn down or a bad switch that only works when the plunger was in just the right spot.
The link is a parts blowup of your vacuum and I think A-26 is the part you need. It appears to have both the bracket and the switch in one part. Make sure where it mounts doesn't have any damage preventing it from staying in the right place and alignment.

The belt is fine and tight but when you turn on vacuum the motor doesn't spin at all to turn the brushes

You will have to see if there is power getting to the motor and if so maybe it is burnt out. Could even be a bad switch.Make sure your receptacle is working where you plug it in. Also check your wiring as well as the plug. sometimes a wire could be broke.

Electrolux EL8505 does not have suction. Hoses have been checked. No warning lights on. Help

I had the same problem I found a clog in the hose between the beater brush and the canister. I used compressed air to unclog.
