Need To Replace the Cooktop of my Jenn-Air downdraft

The glass on my Jenn-Air Model CVE3401B cooktop is broken. I have a new cooktop and I need to replace the old one with this new one. As far as I can see there are only two screws that are located on the side of the downdraft unit that holds the top in place. Is This true? How do I get the old cooktop out?

I have a Cooktop Jenn-Air Model JED8430. The cooktop glass is broken. Would it be possible to change only the glass? If so, where could I get an other one ?

Yes, you can change just the glass. It is called the maintop assembly and usually starts at $275 and goes up. You will need to get the remaining 3 digits for your particular model in order to get the right glass. A good place to start looking would be: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/JED8430?pathTaken=modelSearch&prst=0&shdMod=JED8430

Replacing an old jenn air electric cook top with new 30" down draft gas cooktop. Need to know how to secure the cooktop to the granite countertop.

You should just be able to set the cooktop in after you attach the downdraft, usually there are tabs on the downdraft that clamp on to the granite cutout. There is probably a closed-cell foam strip that runs under the lip of the cooktop, I would just make sure it seals to the granite properly (no gaps) and put a couple dabs of silicone in between the lip of the cooktop and the granite. Usually the cooktop is heavy enough that the silicone will keep it from moving around.

Jenn-Air Cooktop replacement needed

You can get a new cooktop surface from Maytag/Jennair for $229. It is a pain however to replace it. Where is the crack in your cooktop and does that crack pass directly through a heating element? If not, then you may be able to repair it. I broke the corner off mine, and then dropped the piece (now 5 pieces). I was able to bond them back together and you really can't tell it was ever broken. But, it takes some work.

Jenn air cook top

Yes you can. Call Jenn Air ((877) 232-6771) and give them your model number (serial is helpful too). They sent my replacement glass within a week. I have a model JED8430ABD from 2000 and they had the top. Fit perfectly and took about an hour to replace.

To change it out, after unplugging the cooktop, I removed the metal tape connecting the external vent shaft to the blower. Then I just lifted the entire cooktop out up out of the countertop so I could access the screws on the sides of the cooktop (looking at the edges of the new cooktop glass helped me figure out which screws to remove around the edge). Then I removed the 2 screws in the vent area on top (1 black screw on each side). And that released the cooktop glass from the metal box that holds the burners. I then took the rubber rings out of the knob holes so I could put them in the new cooktop (I almost missed that...). Finally, I put the new cooktop glass on, put the screws back in, lowered the cooktop back into the counter, and retaped the blower to the vent shaft. Voila!

I really wouldn't be afraid of doing this yourself if you are handy at all. And it will save you a ton. Good luck.

PS The screws around the perimeter are hexigon shapped, so you can't just use a screwdriver. I found my Black & Decker electric screwdriver had that same shaped hole that it held the bit, so I just pulled out the bit and used the screwdriver that way. Worked like a charm.

JENN AIR GLASS TOP REPLACEMENT

the glass top replacemnt is a pretty straightfoward task, a matter of unscrewing one and repalcing it wiht anew one. after ordering new top its a matter of lookin g at eh new top to see which screws would need to be removed from old. hardest part about job will be youll need to do disconnect the downdraft from the venting ,and pull unit up from the counter inwhich it is installe.< not difficult but cumbersome and awkward to manuver. check abd verify full model and serail number and cal manufacture for correct part umber. may cast anywhere fom 200-400 dollars depending on model

Broken glass cook top

The top can not be repaired. The glass must be replaced . DO NOT USE IT CRACKED!!!!!!!!!!!! This is very dangerous as it can explode from the temperature. Also this is a severe electrical danger as glass top units have exposed elements underneath. Any liquid at all can short it out and cause a fire. I don't know if it is worth repairing. I don't have the exact price for your cooktop but last one I priced was between $350 - $500.
