I have a Carrier heating and cooling unit.
Freon has leaked every year since having it installed. (6 years ago)
Company has replaced freon except one time that they made me pay for it in the amount of over $300.00
Company put a new coil in this February and ever since, whenever the heater blower comes on, my whole house smells like maple syrup and the Company keeps telling me they have never heard of this even though a tech has come to my home and smelled it.
I was told they replaced the coil with an after market coil.
Freon should not be leaking from unit at all. I would not pay for freon that has leaked out due to a poor installation. Maybe the technician who installed this unit needs to rethink his choice of jobs. I would contact the owner of this company who installed it and if you get no positive response then find a new a/c company. I have installed about 40-50 of these units and check each one of them for leaks prior to filling the system. Shame on them for not taking pride in their work. Good luck.
Company that installed new coil in your air handler should be responsible for checking for leaks prior to charging the system or they are knowingly expelling freon into the air and destroying the ozone layer. Tell them that you are going to contact the EPA (environmental protection agency) and see if they don't do the right thing by the customer. There are certain procedures that they must follow according to federal clean air act guidelines. I am an EPA certified a/c technician who knows the fines and penalties for such negligence. Get back to me please, I really want to know their next move. Good luck.
The system must have a leak if it must be refilled every year, They are lying to you. This is a closed system and should never have to be filled unless you have a leak. Don't let them lie to you. Okay well I'm sure you have enough information to protect youself as a consumer. I'll be here if you have any more questions or concerns. Thanks for letting me assist you. Good luck.

The company said they tried everything to find the leak before replacing the coil. I never had the sweet smell till the new coil was put in. I have read that a sweet smell comes on in cars upon the heater being turned on and the answer for that is that coolant is leaking or a bad heater core. No one can tell me why I'm getting this smell from my home heater. It has to have something to do with the new coil
Company is telling me to call Carrier but they're not going to do anything since their coil wasn't used for the replacement.
Thanks for your concern. I've e-mailed Carrier.
Installer is considering spraying coil with a no rinse cleaner and says when I start using the AC it will clean the smell out???????
They say I definately do not have a leak.
Seems I shouldn't have to be the one to solve this problem but they tell me Carrier will listen to the customer more than them.
We'll see!
