How do I change the needle on my Bernette 303 overlocker

To be sure you don't drop the needle down inside the machine, place a piece of paper or fabric across the needle plate. There are 2 tiny screws above the needles. One does the right needle, the other does the left needle. Loosen the screw (do not loosen the screw so much that it will fall out--they are Hard to find!). Pull out the old needle. Push the new needle up into the hole (the flat side should face the back of the machine). Hold the needle in place while you tighten the screw.

I have a Bernette 334d that I replaced a broken horizontal shaft gear. Everything is turning but I cannot get it to make a chain. Think the timing is off. HELP!!!

Hi
If the timing is out, to be honest, you need to get it done by someone who is experienced. It is not a simple job - there are many steps in the process and it must be done very accurately in order for it to function correctly. Timing a sewing machine is childs play in comparison.

Find a gear part to repair my Bernett 334d

Has the horizontal shaft gear (white nylon gear) inside your overlocker failed? Does it look like this?
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/horizontal-shaft-gear-bernina-bernette-50141103.aspx

My repair man obtained this part from Bernina and was able to repair this although it is a labour intensive repair requiring pulling down the whole machine to do. But the part itself was only $US38.

You can buy from sewingpartsonline as per link above.

Or you could ring Bernina head office in your country and talk to someone about it as I was initially told my machine was unrepairable as this part was not available by a local store who wanted to sell me a new one. I guess in light of the 4-5 hour repair time, this is probably a valid call if you buy a new plastic serger but I love my Bernette and felt it was worth repairing, not junking it. It is now 5 years later and still going strong since that repair. My OSMG (old sewing machine guy) Ken told me that the nylon gears sometimes will just crack, even if the machine hasn't had lots of work, just plastic ageing.

Hope this helps you - please rate me 4 thumbs up if so. Cheers

I have a Bernette 335ds serger and one of the needles fell out (plus I need to take the second needle out. The thread has broken in that needle a dozen times, also. I can't find my manual, and don't...

I have a Bernette 334D serger - I'll make a guess that your 335DS is similar.
There is a manual for your model for sale on www.ebay.com right now, item number is 150565998515.

Assuming your needle assembly is the same as mine, you switch off the engine, turn the flywheel until needles are at the highest point, then take the green small straight blade screwdriver from your machine kit and use it to unscrew (righty tightly, lefty loosey) the needle screws a little (never unscrew all the way out!!!) so you can remove the needles. I use my tweezers for this job as it makes holding the needles easier. You may also want to unclip the pressure foot and raise the upper blade out of the way for a bit more room.

Then slide a new needle into each holder, flat shank to the back and tighten up the needle screws again. Remember that the two needles sit at different heights from eachother so make sure each goes fully up into the needle seat, then retighten with the screwdriver.

I hope this helps you with your Bernette, I've had my 334D since 1990 and its still going strong.
