I am not sure what you mean by "Maximum Count".

The Rating of 100K means half the cameras will have shutters that
last over 100K and half will fail before 100k

You can't reset it. It is like your car's odometer. It is factory set to zero on new cameras and it cannot be reset by the user. This is to prevent unscrupulous sellers of used cameras from passing off worn out equipment as newer.

maybee you are shooting the camera at very low shutter speed try to check the shutter speed first . if this does not resolve the problem you may need to drop the camera and the nearest service center and have you curtain checked . you might have reached the maximum shutter count and this needs replacment

Why do you want to reset the shutter count? Are you trying to put one over on a buyer? The shutter count is set to zero at the factory in the camera's firmware. Unless you have access to Nikon's program and the knowledge and equipment to flash it to new ROM (Read Only Memory), you are out of luck.

The shutter is a moving part. It is also made up of several plastic leafs that rub together when opening and closing. Lift the mirror to see if any of them are damaged. You will have to fire the shutter each time before you look as there are 2 sets of shutter leafs. 1 set at the top and 1 set at the bottom firing in rotation. 1 set is of 4 and 1 set is of 2 leafs. also check the action of the mirror. Both are run from the same motor and both have springs to help operation. metal on plastic tends to wear so how many shots have been fired? To check shutter count look up astrojargon and download the EOSinfo software (free) and plug your camera in to your pc. Should give you a shutter count.

I think you mean shutter speed. If this is the case, there are two spinning dials on the camera. When the camera is set in manual mode, one will opperate the F Stop or appature. The other will operate shutter speed.

The f stop numbers will look like this:

1.0 1.2 1.4 1.7 2 2.4 2.8 3.3 4 4.8 5.6 6.7 8 9.5 11 13 16 19 22

The shutter speeds will look like this:

• 1/1000 s
• 1/500 s
• 1/250 s
• 1/125 s
• 1/60 s
• 1/30 s
• 1/15 s
• 1/8 s
• 1/4 s
• 1/2 s
• 1 s

Have you actually set the camera to take self-timer pictures or are you just pressing the shutter half-way to focus and then all the way?

If you were not half-pressing the shutter button when you turned on the camera, then you may need to have this problem serviced.

LCD being unresponsive also seems like a servicing type problem.

I don't think your shutter count of 5000 is an issue as I know a lot of people with more shutter counts who do not face this issue. Its likely that the cam was dropped or exposed to the elements so it needs to be serviced

Unfortunately, delayed shutter response happens on some digital cameras.
