Invalid Engine Code

I'm getting "Invalid Engine Code" flashing on the printer itself. It';s an Infoprint 1120 - Type: 4520. Anyone know what might fix this? Possibly firmware update but I can't seem to confirm anywhere.

Thank you for the reply, I did as you said and I was able to get to the screen you mentioned. I did find 4 Engine Code menus and in each one the display read 0* So I hit Select on each one and it said "Saved". I exited the setup and the printer started but with the same error. "Invalid Engine Code" When I went back into the menu I tried to set it to 1 for each engine and I realised that when I selected the new number the * was automaticly put beside it. Is the * supposed to be there or does it mean that there is an error?

  • powergrip Oct 19, 2007

The choices I had was a number between 0 and 255. I only tested 0 & 1 but either way when selecting either and * was placed beside the number when I saved it. Hence when I would go bacvk into the Engine Code it would display a number and a * beside it. This was the case with all 4 engine codes. The Engine Card is secured in the PCI Slot as well as all wires secured to the card. I am unsure if I should try flashing the firmware but I think I read somewhere that this worked for a diffrent type of Lexmark printer. Only thing is, Lexmark charges for firmware if the item isn't covered by warrenty. Looks like they adopted IBMs handling of firmware.

Thank you so much for your help. I have got it working now. Another problem I encountered was that Lexmark & IBM don't like releasing Engine Codes or other firmware. If you go to their site it says you have to contact support to get a code. I did some digging and I found a list of all codes. I have uploaded it to help others.

    Instructions...

What you do is find out what printer you have and what you type of firmware you need. Consult the list and make note of the keycode that applies to you. Then go to the Lexmark Firmware Site and type the keycode into the box that says "Please enter your authorization keycode*". It will then prompt for download.

Download it and follow the instructions "checkitright" posted to get it installed.

Do the solutions mentioned in this thread work with an IBM infoprint 1120? The engine codes mentioned are all for Lexmark printers. What Lexmark printer is the equivalent of the IBM Info 1120?

This is actually a Lexmark printer, so what I'm quoting is a Lexmark sol.

turn off machine

hold down returnand go buttons

turn on printer

hold  until performing test shows and let go of buttons

it will go to a service mode ( instead of saying ready)

got to printer set up

hit select button

go to engine 1,2 or 3

try each one ( hit select to go into that perticular number)

what you are looking for is a number that has an * next to it. Use the arrow keys to scroll. most likely it changed the setting so go and look for that number w/the * and hit select when you see it.

This is what you chose, or what was saved.

There should have been a lot of numbers and letters in there. I will try to see if you can recover or if you have to replace the engine board.

How do I fix an "Invalid Engine Code" problem with a Lexmark C510 printer? I read some where that I would have to flash it, but I can't find the firmware anywhere online. Does anyone have any ideas on...

go to http support lexmark dot com /printerfirmware
unsure of link posting here but you get there by googling it
then here are the codes
Authorization Keycode for C510 Engine Code = e140p
C510 Base Code = 891004

* Engine code version is 140P
* Base code version is 891.004

you need to follow the instructions on this it is a flash firmware upgrade, not a driver! hopefully you won't have a power outage while you try this.

Paper tray is in the printer, but the printer says missing tray 1

There are two possible solutions: The first is that the lugs on the side of the paper tray are broken, and the printer cannot "see" a paper tray. In this case you need a new paper tray. The other possibility is that the tray and paper size sensor inside the printer is faulty. Often just pushing the contacts can free them, and sometimes the metal prongs that sense the lugs on the side of the paper tray get unseated. Just use your finger to reseat them correctly. If that doesn't work, the sensor board is likely to have failed, and will need replacing

IBM INFOPRINT 1120

Julie1665, Here are some things that could be causing your problem: -Could be the paper you are printing does not meet the printer specifications. -Could be toner leaking out of the cartridge. -Could be environmental issues, too hot or cold or humid. -The toner density could be set too high. -The electrical contacts that connect the toner cartridge to the printer could be dirty or just not making good contact. -the printer power supply could be defective. -With regards to your toner cartridge are you using new IBM cartridges or refilled/remanufactured? I?ve had many customers call me to fix a printer problem that turned out to be a bad cartridge. All of these are within the capabilities of the typical user except changing the power supply.
