The water
filter for this refrigerator is optional. The
GE part number is: WR97X0214, or one of the box stores also carries a universal
filter. Just make sure it for a ¼ inch line. The water filter is located on the
back side of your refrigerator, and will have to be pulled out from the wall.
Use caution not to break the water line when pulling/rolling it out.
That model number is incomplete, but a similar model indicates the refrigerator was manufactured long before water filtration was introduced into refrigerators. There may be an aftermarket filter behind the unit, or perhaps anywhere between the back of the unit and the supply valve. Otherwise, you may just need to flush the system by running a couple of pitchers of water through the door to purge whats in the reservoir in the refrigerator section with some fresh water.
