The water filter for this refrigerator is optional. The GE part number is: WR97X0214, or one of the box stores also carries a universal filter. Just make sure it for a ¼ inch line. The water filter is located on the back side of your refrigerator, and will have to be pulled out from the wall. Use caution not to break the water line when pulling/rolling it out.

That model number is incomplete, but a similar model indicates the refrigerator was manufactured long before water filtration was introduced into refrigerators. There may be an aftermarket filter behind the unit, or perhaps anywhere between the back of the unit and the supply valve. Otherwise, you may just need to flush the system by running a couple of pitchers of water through the door to purge whats in the reservoir in the refrigerator section with some fresh water.

Ice tastes bad from ice dispenser in side by side LG fridge. Water from my tap is fine

Check your box for a filter. If not than buy one from hardware store. They are easy to install. Also try flushing the system. Just run water thru dispenser about gallon worth. Ihope this helps.

The water and ice taste and smells bad, and when the ice melts the water is cloudy

Replace water supply line. Do not use the braided metat line or vinyl. Use the plastic tubing ice maker line or copper.

I have a GE Profile side by side and the ice tastes bad

Yes this is very common and I know exactly what you mean - it's disgusting ! As you know air circulates and re-circulates between your freezer and fridge section and with time odors get mixed up and get imprinted on water and ice - Throw your ice rack, buy a new one and use filtered water instead like from a brita, and once a week renew it, throw them out and refill them, constantly recycling them every week to two weeks, keeping it fresh.

Moldy taste from water/ice for GE profile

What kind of external filter did you use ? If you used an $11.00 cut the line and attach on each end of the tube filter , this will not work . Go to home depot and invest in the $50.00 filter which mounts to the wall , where you replace the inner certridge by untwisting with your hand . This filter has replaceable charcoal , calcium , lime ,etc cartridges . You may have to try different cartridges to find the one your happy with .

Icemaker in brand new fridge makes ice that tastes like mildew

brand new?OK...first,did you flush the water filter by dispencing 2 pitchers of water through the door.wait, that it.basicly the water in your ice maker is the same water that comes out of your tap.you may find that you dont like the filtered water, there should be a bypass plug that can go in place of the filter.solution wise thats about it.
