I bought a KitchenAid 24" microwave oven and trim kit.to replace an old KitchenAid 24" oven. The old oven set on the built-in shelf with a stainless steel trim panel around the oven to trim the cut-out. There seemed to be adequate ventilation with the oven sitting on the shelf. There were two "L" brackets behind the oven that kept it from being pushed too far into the cut out. The new oven trim kit has two rails that raise the oven 1-3/4". I do not have the vertical height to raise the oven that much. Can I set the oven on the wooden shelf or on the metal duct mounted on the shelf and use the old stainless steel trim panel? If the oven needs to be raised on the rails for adequate ventilation, then I will have to return it and find a smaller oven. Thanks

As long as there is ventilation at the back and somewhere for the air to come out go ahead and use you imagination to make the trim kit look good to the eye. Making those tough decisions is what installers do.

SOURCE: looking for a G.E. microwave trim kit

I ordered a trim kit from a on-line group who will make it to fit your needs. I can't think of their name but you can find them by doing a search. I ordered the black to go with my SS mic/conv oven and it looks great. Was not difficult to install.

No personally, but the lack of results when I do a Google search concerns me!

I would look at the owner's manual and make a note of their contact info.

Hopefully they have a Web site, especially one that has good links for customer service, servicers, and FAQs and help.

If they just have a phone number listed, beware!

Ykhms2050 door removal

To remove the door, you must first remove the top and side cover. There are screws on the back side of the cover. After the screws are removed the cover should slid to the back and lift off. the door hinges should then be visible. Some more disassembly my be required to access the hinge fasteners. If this is a built in oven you mist first remove the trim kit so that you can remove the oven form the cabinet.

I need to buy a new MBBS Thermador Microwave

I spent the better part of three days trying to find a microwave that will fit and it's hard because so many are on line only. Last night I successfully installed the 2.2 cu. ft. GE profile counter top unit with inverter technology. The unit is an exact match, the Thermador even fits in the GE box with the styrofoam! I installed the venting materials for the side and rear vents and the platform at the bottom. I put the clips and decorative molding on and it's perfect! I found it in stock at Lowe's for $198. I took me about 45 minutes total to install. If I can do it, anyone can - 48 year old mom with 5 kids!

Need replacement microwave to fit existing trim kit

Finally built up the courage to call GE Appliance number and weave my way through the phone menu system. Pressed the right menu option (sales) to speak to someone about trim kits. Found out that the trim kit model number is JX1527MWW. Then called back to select a different menu option (other) and learned from someone else that since the trim kit model is more than 1-2 years old, there's a slim-to-none chance any new microwave models will work with it, and even if there was they couldn't easily cross-reference against a model that old to tell me which one (or something to that effect). So I hit a dead end. Only option for me at this point is to buy a new microwave with new trim kit.

(Personal note: I think the trim kit business is a racket, in bed with the microwave manufacturers. Why else would there be no standard dimensions for microwaves by now--like refrigerators have--and why is it a few pieces of sheet metal cost over $150? Pretty convenient that every microwave model needs its own trim kit model!)
