When you perform a color calibration on an HP designjet you must use a certain paper. HP bond plotter paper should be one of them. If you are not concerned about perfect color calibration you can lie to the printer and tell it you installed the paper it wants. If it cannot detect that this paper is not exactly what it is looking for it will perform the color calibration. Just keep in mind that it might not be exact or may fail.

How do one correct print quality in hp color laser jet 2600n

Hi Good day!!
Follow this method hope it helps you!!

During the printing process, paper, toner and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer. Over time, this buildup can cause print-quality problems such as toner specks or smearing. This printer has a cleaning mode that can correct and prevent these types of problems.
This printer has two processes for generating cleaning pages: one is automatically generated and one is manually generated. When a new black print cartridge is installed, a cleaning page will be automatically generated prior to calibration.
Clean the fuser using HP Toolbox
NOTE: Use the following procedure to clean the fuser using the HP Toolbox. To clean the engine when the computer is running an operating system that does not support HP Toolbox, see the late-breaking Readme on the root of the CD-ROM, or visit http://www.hp.com/support/clj2600n .

1 Make sure that the printer is turned on and in the Ready state.

2 Open the HP Toolbox using one of the following methods.
*
On the Windows desktop, double-click the HP Toolbox icon.
* On the Windows Start menu, click Programs (All Programs in Windows XP), click HP , click HP Color LaserJet 2600n, and then click HP Color LaserJet 2600n Toolbox .

3 Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then Troubleshooting Tools .
4 Click the Print button next to step 1, "Click the "Print" button to print out the Cleaning Page."

5 Remove the Cleaning Page from the output bin, and load it printed side down in Tray 1.

6 Click the Clean button to complete the cleaning process. Press the GO button on the printer control panel. The Cleaning page will print, with a second page adhered to the first page. This is normal behavior during the cleaning process.

Cleaning spilled toner
Defective print cartridges can develop leaks. Also, after a paper jam has occurred, some toner might remain on the rollers and guides inside the printer. The pages that print immediately after the jam can pick up this toner.
CAUTION: When cleaning the printer, do not touch the ETB with a damp cloth or with fingers.
Cleaning the paper path
The device features a special cleaning mode to clean the paper path.
NOTE: If there is access to HP Toolbox, HP recommends cleaning the paper path by using HP Toolbox.
Clean the paper path

1. Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Service, and then press (SELECT).

2. Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Cleaning Mode, and then press (SELECT).
A page feeds through the printer slowly. Discard the page when the process is completed.

3. Load plain letter or A4 paper when prompted.

4. Press (SELECT) again to confirm and begin the cleaning process.
A page feeds through the printer slowly. Discard the page when the process is completed.

Calibrating the printer
Calibrations are performed at regular intervals. For best print quality, a calibration can be performed from the control panel using the following steps:
NOTE: This will calibrate the color and clean the black electrostatic transfer belt (ETB).

1 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select System setup and then press (SELECT).

2 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Print quality and then press (SELECT). Calibrate color will display on the control panel.

Press (SELECT).

3 Use the (LEFT ARROW) or the (RIGHT ARROW) button to select Calibrate now and then press (SELECT).

4 Press (SELECT) to start the calibration.

Color isn't true

You'll need to calibrate your screen and your printer - calibration is required for every set of paper and ink you use. It's quite a science and an art. I suggest you google "colour space" "printer calibration" "gamut" etc and read up on it. Alternatively you could spend a few hundred quid on a printer calibration tool, either the Colormunki or the Spyder print studio.

It still won't match perfectly, as the way color is created on a screen differs hugely for to how it is produced on paper.

Start with a properly calibrated screen first though (my money is on the Spyder elite screen calibrator and spyder print calibrator)

I'm a pro photographer and I print my own photos - full system calibration is the only way. www.yourhandinmine.co.uk
