Uneven feeding on the elna jubilee

I'm having trouble adding piping to a crib bumper pad. the bottom fabric is puckering - it is corduroy piping between two layers of cotton. I don't remember how to adjust the feed dogs on this machine and cannot find my manual.
Any suggestions?
thanks
karen

The fabric is puckering because of fabric slippage. The pressure of the foot is keeping the fabric from moving when the feed dogs move the lower layer of fabric.
I think this machine may have a pressure adjustment regulator on it. If it does.it is on the top left side, towards the back of the machine. It will be round and chrome color. Loosen the pressure and, if necessary, pull the fabric gently towards the rear while you are sewing.
A walking foot attachment will help but since it is so wide you may not be able to use it.A roller foot is an acceptable substitute but that may be too wide also.If everything else fails you will need to pin the layers together to keep them from slipping.
Hope this helps.

I believe the Jubilee does not have a pressure adjustment for the presser foot, these were a "self" adjusting pressure spring. Are you using the zipper foot to get the stitching really close to the piping? And also, you probably will need to baste in with one layer of fabric, then sandwich with the other layer on top, I wouldn't try fabric, piping, fabric all in one go.

Making a box cushion with piping.Bottom fabric is puckering so losing 10cms+ on boxing making it impossible to sew on bottom of cushion..

You might try a 'walking' foot-the kind that quilters use. This will even out the push/pull between the presser foot and feed dogs and may ease the puckering problem. Also, make certain that you use a Sharp needle and change it out again if you are still having trouble (sometimes even a new needle can be damaged from the production process).

What settings should my elna 410 be on for thick fabric such as canvas

You may want to change the tension slightly to make sure the top & bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric. Use a heavier needle and thread. Increase the stitch length. And possibly change the presser foot pressure or use a walking foot, roller foot, or teflon foot. If the pressure is too heavy, the presser foot may "push: the top layer of fabric in front of it so the top fabric is slightly stretched or puckered.

Hi, My Elna 7000 doesn't easily feed medium or thin fabrics. Presser Foot tension lever is position 2 and the Feed Dog is rising normally. Any thoughts please? Does the F Dog wear out in any way?

Generally, the lighter the fabric weight, the heavier the presser foot pressure. Yes, feed dogs do wear with use. Do not run the machine without fabric between the presser foot and the feed dogs--the feed dogs constantly rubbing against the presser foot will quickly wear the feed dog points. Store the machine with the presser foot down with a pad between the presser foot and feed dogs (even a scrap piece of fabric will do). Also, be sure to clean the feed dogs of any gunky build-up. If the feed dog points are worn, it may be worthwhile to have them replaced.

Singer model 2638 puckers fabric when sewing straight stitch. Have to manually keep fabric taut behind needle to get anything accomplished. Why does this occur and how can it be fixed?

If the fabric is puckering when stitching, usually it is because the tension is too tight. You may need to loosen both the top and bobbin tensions.

Another time the problem occurs is when sewing fine fabric (like chiffon). The fabric does not have enough body to lay flat, so it puckers. You can utilize a stabilizer to help give the fabric body (washaway or tearaway stabilizer, or even use light-weight paper such as adding machine tape or even toilet tissue). Sometimes some spray starch is enough to help it lay flat.

Elna machine puckers silk on zig zag stitching, Elna 2007

Yes, because a zig zag stitch is creating a wide stitch and the tension on the thread is going to pull the fabric within the seam together, you can't seam thin fabric with a wide zig zag. It will "tunnel together". If you are using this stitch to neaten a raw edge, then try using the serpentine or three step zig zag where the needle pierces the fabric 3 times in each leg of the zig zag, this will give better results.

My elna overlocker 925 puckers fabric at pressure foot please how can i fix this?

This is usually caused by incorrect thread tension. Light weight fabric with the tension too high will pucker fabric. Thread that is too heavy or light for the fabric throws the tension off.

Elna sewing machine fabric is puckering

Check tension and threading up first, sounds like top tension or thread catching somewhere. Also have you changed the needle, i change mine for EACH new sewing project, needles go blunt and need replacing every 4-6 hours of sewing. Lastly, press seams as you go, this improves appearance and blends stitching into the fabric,

My white speedylock 1600 is being difficult.. The top threads lay and look perfect.. but the bottom threads are loose.. What can I do about this?

This machine has differential feed (top tension is different from bottom and fabric feed rate can be different from bottom). turn the dials for tension and feed rates to adjust. Adjust bottom tension to tighten bottom threads and possibly speed up bottom feed rate. Tough to say without more info.

Good luck and please rate me.

From White Sewing web site.

"Are wavy fabrics making you seasick? Do puckers leave a sour taste in your mouth? Then you need differential feed. It eliminates distortion and wavy seams when serging knits, plus it prevents puckers and pulled seams on lightweight fabrics. Turn the dial again for instant gathers.
