Recently, when you use the touchpad, the sound is different. When you hit "start", the touchpad sounds like a motor is running but the microwave doesn't work. Opening the door doesn't stop the motor sound, but it stops after about a minute by itself. The microwave doesn't work, but the touchpad does but the sound when you push a button is definetly different than normal. And when you hit start, the turning motor sound was never there before. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like the main transformer has failed. It would be cheaper to replace the whole microwave than repair this one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hope this helps. Good luck.
There's a simple fix for this. Unplug the unit. Take off the top grill with 2 screws. Remove the 1 screw that holds the touch pad unit. Lift up on touchpad unit and lift out. Put a piece of aluminum foil inside a large zip lock bag and tape it to the back of the touchpad unit and reassemble. GE put the magnetron to close to the control board causing stray microwaves to interfere with the board. The foil shields it.
Hi jnflanders, You've probably solved this by now, but I'll answer just in case. That part is called the stirrer motor. You can replace it yourself, as long as you have an offset phillip's head screwdriver handy. Before you order the replacement part, figure out if your stirrer is driven by a d-shaped or a square shaft. You can tell by taking off the round plate on the inside top wall of the microwave. GE makes stirrer motors for both d-shaped and square shafts, so you'll have to get the right one. I had the same problem. You need to replace the turntable motor. I used a local appliance repair shop and they charged $45 for the motor plus $65 labor(a house call). I just checked with searspartsdirect.com and they have the motor(part # WB26X10038) for $22.27. Oh well, at least it works.
I had the same problem. I removed the grill and opened the control panel as I read an answer from "GENE" on APP (Appliance Pros) that this indicated a short in the circuit board (TouchPad). I was going to replace the faulty circuit board but when I opened the control panel there it was......One wire harness had just came unplugged!! I plugged it in, reassembled and the microwave works again!
