Problems with reverse osmosis water treatment system

Hi there ! I had a Maruyama reverse osmosis water filtration system installed in Dec 08 . in the first month it used up one bag of salt i replaced this bag of salt but then forgot to keep checking the bin unit where the salt is stored. They guy who installed it said usual consumption about one bag a month, so when i checked on it next i found that the salt in the bin had almost gone completely and bought a bag that very day. This time i bought the recommended salt lumps instead of ordinary salt cristals which i had used the once in the interim. Now there appears to be no change in the amount of salt lumps in the bin even though the salt had been put in over 5 weeks ago, it seems as though there is no proper activity in the unit. I was wondering if the bin is supposed to be full of water all the time or if the water gets pumped into the bin when it self cleans and then pumped out again. In the bin one can also see where the old level of the water was around the rim. At present there is only tiny bit of water in bottom of bin but i do not know whether when it is in the cleaning process this water level rises?? what can i do to find out if the system still funktions correctly, tried ringing the supplier they seem to have gone out of business as no reply to phone calls mess. etc help would be very much appreciated as i kinda worry about the state of the water from our well in Ireland thanks tina

Http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/h2oqual/watsys/ae1047w.htm Treatment systems for household water supplies gives a great description for reverse osmosis systems. I am not familiar with the Maruyama system since I live in the states. After reading the above article you might want to test your water. Your system may be operating properly? To me it soulds like you have a water softner and flushed the salt out, and now you have the proper pellets? If your water is not very hard you shouldn't use too much salt. Building supply stores sell cheap water test kits. Try that, and if your water tests ok, and doesn't smell, and lathers up with soap sounds like everthing is working ok. Hope I helped

How does a water purifier work?

A water purifier works through the process of reverse osmosis. Water purifiers cleanse water by passing it through a series of filters. This helps remove large amounts of contaminants and other harmful chemicals

Water filter drain running all the time

Is this a new system? The should be a small restriction in the drain line. The size of the restriction is matched to the gallon per minutes of the R.O. system. Yours could be missing or not the right size, ie not enough restriction.

I have GXRM10RBL ge filtration installed 3 years ago and suspect it has not been installed properly since I cannot get more than10 ounces of water at a time. Otherwise everything is fine and I exchanged...

Insufficient water or noisy GE Reverse Osmosis Filtration System GXRM10RBL.
If this sytem gets too much debris or air bubbles in it, it can cause the shut-off valve to close improperly, making an annoying whining noise and reducing water flow. By turning the wall-hung system containing the filters upside down, you can see this valve neatly wedged between the pre and post filter housings. See photo.
The GE part number is WS22X10038 and can be obtained on eBay or from a supplier like ereplacementparts for about $20 including shipping.
The part can be removed by gently prying it out of its retaining slot on the main housing. Be sure to note which way the valve is pointing and photograph the order of the tubes that attach to the four threaded nozzles on the valve. Use small adjustable pliers to undo and replace the plastic nuts that hold the tubes in place.
This should solve the noise and improve water flow to the sink faucet.03155a57-8fe3-4355-af1d-a1511a4653c9.gif

I have a GE smartwater reverse osmosis system model number GXRM10GBL02. Water leaks daily from the small hole on the faucet on my counter top. Any idea why water comes out that small hole? Otherwise the...

That is the drain for the reverse osmosis system. You have what is referred to as an AIR GAP faucet. The waste water is pushed up there before it goes to drain just as the drain for a dishwasher does. If water is coming out of the faucet the drain is most likely plugged or the line is kinked causing water to back up and overflow. Check the drain line for kinks and clean out the drain where it attaches to the stand pipe.

I bought a new tank for my reverse osmosis water treatment and it did not come with directions. It's supposed to be ''charged,'' whatever that means. When I hook it up to my system it does not fill with...

Typically a reverse osmosis storage tank should have a precharge of approximately 7 psi. Depending on the make/model of your tank it may have a higher charge currently which would cause the tank to not fill. There should be a schrader valve on the bottom or side of the tank. Using a tire gauge and bicycle pump you should be able to check the current pressure in the tank and adjust it up or down to 7 psi.

Connect refrigerator to water
supply and turn water shutoff valve fully open.
Kink in the water source line? A kink in the line can reduce
water flow. Straighten the water source line.
Ice maker turned on? Make sure wire shutoff arm or switch
(depending on model) is in the ON position.
New installation? Wait 24 hours after ice maker installation
for ice production to begin. Wait 72 hours for full ice

Remove ice from the ejector arm with a plastic utensil.

Is the water pressure at least 30 psi? The water pressure to
the home determines the flow from the dispenser. See “Water
Supply Requirements.”
Kink in the home water source line? Straighten the water
source line.
New installation? Flush and fill the water system.
Water filter installed on the refrigerator? The filter may be
