i would take it and get it serviced
i think the tape isnt running at quite the right speed perhaps a dirty bearing
usually if you get black and white from a colour video
then its either recorded in black and white or playing back black and white

so if you record then test it using a a vcr and a converter vhs tape box then you can see if its recording in black and white

then youll know its something too do with either the colour carrier etc component of the video its outputing

dont think its a dirty head
but you can clean it easy enough
i use a plain manila envilope and use the inside of its paper
the outside is smooth the inside is rough
its just right to clean the head drum
and some small lint free cloth to carefully clean the mecha
i use IPA isopropile alchohol {get from the chemist}

Cable damage is the first thing to check. If the cable is external this is an easy check by trying a new one. Otherwise it is probably internal cable damage or damage to the video output plug.

Look to see if same issue when a DVD etc is connected via the audio/video jacks this set should have.

If no color there it is a fairly expensive repair--likely the chroma/video chip which for this model may not be available any longer.

It could be the print setting on your computer.
If you're using Windows, with your document open, go to File > Properties/Preferences. In the Print Setup tab, make sure to select "Print using all available ink" in the Ink Use section.
On Mac you can select Color in Print Setting in any expanded print dialog.

What AV connections are you using? some of the older composite cables will make your game systems play black and white on HDTV's. RGB connections are different than the old standard RWY cables.

Check the video cable coming out of the xbox, depending on which model xbox it is (arcade, pro, elite etc.) it will most likely have both component cables - green, blue and red or RCA cables - Yellow, red and white. It sounds as if your JVC would only be able to run RCA cables (due to its age) so use the yellow cable for video and white and red (or just white if you only have a yellow and white input) and then make sure the switch located on the cable is switched to "standard" and not "hi definition" hope it helps. There are two buttons on the MX310... one for colour and one for black & white.. Depending on which mode you're using (ie: copy, fax, etc..) these buttons will copy, fax, etc...in either colour or black & white accordingly.

These buttons are located on the far right of the control panel with colour closest to the user, black & white above that and then the stop button above and right.

To fax in black & white (or mono as it's otherwise called) just choose the Fax mod, then press the Black button and you're away...

Did you possibly switch where your wires are hooked up? I just tried hooking my player up to a new tv and I had a black and white picture at one point. Make sure your video wires hook to the proper colored ports.

Same problem with an older JVC player. One end of the S-video cable was loose. Pushed in in tight and everything ok again. Cheap fix if it works for you.

Your HD-52Z575 will only be able to display an NTSC signal, PAL is not compatable. There is nothing that can be done to make it play a PAL signal.
