Hooking my tascam dp01 to the pc

I read the instruction manual on how to hook up my tascam dp01 to my pc but it said that it was unable to recognize what was in the usb port. Then i could not figure out how to put my songs from my tascam onto my pc so i can burn a cd,i did what the manual said and it is not very clear apparently because all of my files are gone! I'm sure they have to still be on there it has something to do with the partition, im sure, but i don't even know what that is. I am willing to re-record, so if someone could tell me step by step how to do this i would love you, and if yall know how to find my song files that would be amazing too. PLEASE HELP!

When I connect to the DP-01 the computer (Windows Vista) it is recognized immediately. I put a backing track in the WAVE file and confirmed it was there. HOWEVER, when I tried to import it from the active FAT partition there was nothing in the file. The DP-01 does not recognize it. I tried to make sure it was a WAV file, renamed it to 7 letters.WAV, reloaded it, etc. Still the DP-01 doesn't recognize it. Any ideas?

I'm trying to backup songs to my computer from a Tascam DP-01. I copied files to the FAT on the Tascam, then hooked up the USB cable. The computer did not recognize it.....apparently I don't have the proper USB device driver for Windows VISTA. Is there a driver for Vista? If so, where do I get it (is it free?) ??

I can't get windows to recognize my Dp-02cf. I copied the tracks to the FAT partition. Then plug in the USB cable, and open the USB connection. The unit says it is connected. Then I get a message from windows saying the "device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." It does this on two different windows pcs. Any ideas?

    Hi there

Yes I am having the same problem with my Tascam DP01. I managed to export 1 track from the mixing desk but when i went back to the tascam, all my files were gone?? I have had to re-record everything and now i have recorded more tracks and am a bit worried about trying to export again as I don't know what happened before and i'll be gutted if I wipe them off again. I hadn't pressed delete or anything!

Also can you please recommend a mixing program (ie: Cubase) that I can use. My computer is windows vista (which doesn't seem to be compatible with anything I might add) and cubase doesn't seem to be uploading. It mentions something about a soundcard but wont even open. Is this right or would I need a more upto date music program as the cubase i have may be a bit old!

    Thank you

My problem is more basic: I cannot get the thing to record and play back. the manual does not tell how to do this -or maybe it does, but I cannot get what it says to compoort with what I can understgand. Anyway, I am desperately seeking very basic instruction in how to use the thing, and I will pay $45 an hour cash for someone in the Washington DC area who aready knows how to use it , and can come to my house and teach me.

The manual for this product isn't very well written at all. You should open the FAT partition on the DP-01 FIRST, BEFORE you connect the USB cable. If you do that, the PC will recognize the DP-01 without difficulty. If you follow the instructions in the manual, the PC will not recognize the DP-01!

Please check your usb connections to make sure they are on tight, I spent an hour or more trying to find out if this Tascam recorder was compatible with Vista. My worked when I pushed in the USB cord on my computer and yes the vista then finds a driver to install for your new hardware and presto after it installs it comes up as DP-01 open up the wave file and your player will open up and play the song. Any questions you can email me at

Get the song set so you can play it back. Hit shift-in to set the begining position. Advance to the end of the song and hit shift-out to set the end point. Hit master so it blinks, then hit play record to master it. Go to menu -> wave -> export song. Menu -> disk -> usb open. Now attach it to the PC.

Banjohead and other guests : My first problem was I didn't read enough. First you record song/master. Then you export it. Then you must open TASCAM hard drive so it can be recognized by the PC (page 41 Open and Close). Then it will be recognized immediately.

It will still work without USB 2.0... just slower when transferring files.

Bangyo:  Don't forget that you have to "export" your files first to the FAT drive.  The Tascam will then send your track(s) as .WAV files and will store them in the WAV folder on the DP-01 directory.  When recognized, the DP-01 simply shoes up as a removable disk, the same as a camera or MP3 player (for example).

Hope this helps.  Check out "exporting" in your manual.  It starts at the bottom of page 43.

How do I ready tracks on the Tascam DP01 to put them on the computer? I can't figure out how to get them into the wave folder. I don't have a manual

You can download a manual here:
http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/352/dp01fxcd_eng.pdf

You need to first turn the USB port on in the DP01 disk menu and it then will appear as another drive on your computer. Just look in the WAV folder for your recordings.

TASCAM DP-02 (You don't even include it here in your products!)

Here's a link to the DVD tutorial for the DP-02:

http://www.amazon.com/Tascam-DP-02-Video-Tutorial-Manual/dp/B001JP6572

There is also a video on Tascam's support page for this product that you can download for free:

http://www.tascam.com/products/dp-02;9,16,3580,19.html

You can ask questions here or consider joining Tascam Forums (I think it costs $4) and talk to Tascam experts from all over.

http://www.tascamforums.com/

The DP-02 operates almost exactly as the DP-01 did, so manuals and videos for one should pretty much guide you correctly when applied to the other, but the video in the first link is the correct on for the DP-02.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck.

Replace Tascam DP-01FX/CD -- the CD R/W won't work

I don't think there is a problem with your CD writer.  You have not inserted the type of disc your write drive requires.  You must use a BLANK "AUDIO CD-R".   Check your instruction manual concerning the type of disc required.  Data CD-R's will not work in this type of drive.  if the disc has "DATA CD-R" or "700"mb or "800mb" printed on it it will not work.  audio CD-R's are not as common and are a bit more costly.   They are the only type of disc that will RECORD in your drive.  Regular audio CDs should play in your drive.  I hope this solution will work for you and I wish you every success! For Tascam DP02 can't record and listen

Hi,

Assuming your PA is a Yamaha STAGEPAS (although I thought 500 watts per side was the biggest one you could get). Anyway, on your PA's panel you will have the karaoke machine(s) plugged into the CD ins (top of the panel), while closer to the bottom you'll see the 'monitor outs' L and R 1/4 inch jacks. These are where you'd run the L and R from the PA into your Tascam (or L alone for mono out). The monitor outs are line level and are good for independently powered speakers, recording equipment, mixers etc. Just avoid using any outputs labelled 'speakers'.

DP-01FX/CD

Unfortunately it's pretty much impossible to get a recording to sound like anything produced commercially these days without using lots of compression. Your burned CD problems might be the result of a faulty burner on your DP01-FX/CD. I have a 2488 and I still export all my mastered songs as wav files and burn them onto disc using my PC just because of the flexibility on the PC and you can control settings better which can cause disc burning problems (not to mention that the burner is newer and faster on my PC).

If you don't want to work on a PC you could look into replacing the burner in your Tascam. It is similar to replacing a PC's burner and the either the Tascam site and/or the Tascam Forum should be able to provide you with the specs and a list of compatible CD burners.

To get the final product to sound louder you could invest in an external compressor (a good used one should run you less than $100). You'll have to use the DP01's send loops to route a bounce of the stereo mix out to the compressor and then route the result back into the DP01 inputs and record on a couple of free tracks.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hooking up my mpc2000xl to dp01

The DP-01 does not have a MIDI-In function. Instead, it allows you to plug the MIDI device into the signal chain. Plug the MIDI device into the DP-01 by using the MPC2000xl analog 1/4" jacks on the back, marked "Stereo Right" and "Stereo Left" (right next to the headphone jack at the rear top left). Run those 1/4" cables to the front of your DP-01, into the 1/4" jacks provided.

Hold the Assign button on the DP-01 for the LEFT channel and touch the REC key for the channel you want to assign it to - the REC light will flash red to let you know the routing was successful. Do the same for the RIGHT channel.

You should also plug the MIDI-Out cable from the DP-01 into the mpc2000xl so that the clocks of the devices can be synchronized.
