Somewhere in the setup or settings for the network on your receiver make sure DHCP is turned on. DHCP (Dynamic Host Control Protocol) allows it to get a IP address and subnet from the router so it functions on the network. Likewise DHCP must be enabled on the router as well otherwise the downstream device (your receiver) won't be able to get an IP address.

Can i hook up wrt120n to laptop without hooking up to cable modem to fix?

Try this: Unplug EVERYTHING(related to both the router and modem). BEFORE you plug in power to anything, connect all of your ethernet. So, first ethernet goes from modem to router. Make sure they are in their proper places. Next, take another ethernet cable and attach that from modem to computer. NOW, power everything up. Google the linksys router splash page login. Im sure it'll be something like: 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or something along those lines. From there, you should be able to set up your wireless. Once thats all good, unplug just your computer and everything should be fine. If that doesn't work, its either time for a new router or you're having wifi card issues.

How to plug a WNR1000 Wireless Router into a Hughes net HN7000S modem

It should connect with an Ethernet cable. Looks like a phone cable but is twice as wide with 8 pins instead of 4. Plug one end into the modem's Ethernet output port and plug the other end into the router's single WAN/Internet input port.

I need to lock my router from others using my wifi

    • 1 Disconnect the power cord from your high-speed modem. Locate the Ethernet port on the back of your modem. If an Ethernet cable is already plugged in, trace the cable to the second device and unplug the cable from it; otherwise, plug one end of an Ethernet cable to the open Ethernet port on your modem.
    • 2 Plug the unused end of the Ethernet cable to the port on the back of the router labeled "modem." Plug a second Ethernet cable into one of the open ports located above the "modem" port; connect this cable to the Ethernet port on your computer.
    • 3 Reconnect the power cord to your modem; wait for the lights on the front panel to turn green before proceeding. Plug one end of the router's power cord into the corresponding port on the back of the device; plug the remaining end into any available electrical outlet.
    • 4 Turn on your computer and log into your operating system as normal. Insert the installation CD into the computer; the installation application should load automatically (if it doesn't, you can find the application by manually browsing the CD's contents).
    • 5 Follow the onscreen instructions; after you have made the initial configurations, click on the option labeled "Security Assistant" on the left side of the installer window. Select the desired security type for your wireless network and click on the button labeled "Next."
    • 6 Choose a network key and enter it into the appropriate field; press "Next" and follow the onscreen instructions.
    • 7 Open your computer's wireless network settings and enter the wireless network name, security type and network key into the appropriate fields. Save your changes. Set-up is now complete.
Tips & Warnings
  • You can access additional settings via the modem's manual configuration interface. Open your web browser and navigate to 192.168.2.1; when prompted for a password, leave the field blank, and click on the button labeled "Submit."For optimal signal strength, choose a location for your router that will be near your computer, with as few walls and other obstacles as possible.

My web browser is not working. i cant acces the internet

make sure your ethernet cable (RG45 , looks like , bigger version of telephone cable) is plugged into your (ethernet) port of the computer and the other end of the cabel must be conncted to the modem or router). make sure the router has power and the modem has power, both turned on .
Are the lights on the modem or router lit up ?
the modem must be attached to the router via anolther RG45 ethernet cable. The modem must be conncted to a main signal cable or ethernet jack from your wall outlet or plug

let me know if this helps -- otherwise get in conbtact with your internet service provider

I have a Belkin N-Router and I was wondering how to connect it to my modem because the cable it has connects only to where the modem's ethernet cable is located when i just run my modem, and there is only...

plug the one ethernet cable from the modem into the router wan port . The modem will have an ip address note this and then change the ip address to one higher than the modem for the router's ip address and change the ip address in the router to make the gateway ip address the modem ip address.
Disable the DHCP server in the Router iIf the modem has an active DHCP server in the router.
Plug the rest of your network into the other router ethernet ports.

Ethernet cable 'splitter': Works on AT@T 'light' modem but not on cable modem. Are splitters speed sensitive

Splitters that work on telephone modems are not designed to work on cable modems. If you are trying to allow more than one computer to access the Internet, you need a broadband router.

You can find them on eBay and at stores for under $30. The primary difference between them is the number of "ports". A port is simply a place to plug in your PC. The more ports, the more PCs you can plug in.

Here's how you set a router up.

1. Plug a short Ethernet cable into the Ethernet "out" port on your cable modem.

2. Plug the other end into the "Uplink" or "WAN" port (will be labeled one or the other.

3. Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN card on your PC and the other end into one of the open Ethernet ports on the router.

4. Reboot each PC.

You should be good to go!

Desktop and two laptops won't work with modem & router now

Probably you used the wrong type of ethernet cable, a crossover one. Try another Ethernet cable but this time a straight one.

Ethernet vs. usb

FYI for those people trying to use a ethernet and usb cable from a cable modem - it may work for a while but it won't work forever - your ISP will only allow one IP address out of the modem unless you pay for additional addresses (then you need a switch). Each device you have on the modem is fighting for that IP and eventually it will just quit working (if it works at all).

If you want more than one computer on your network (on the Internet or sharing printers/files, etc) then you need a router or a gateway (cable modem/router combo which I DON'T recommend).

Need to hook up Belkin G wireless router to Motorola SB5120

Plug your cable line into your modem, make sure it's tight, but don't use a tool. Next plug the ethernet line from the modem to your PC ethernet port. Then plug in your power to the modem. Allow your modem to sync. Don't use the USB line at all. Do not even hook it up unless your computer doesn't have a working ethernet line. Don't run the disk either, it will only install the modem driver that is only used if you use USB.

If you have issues connecting after that, you may have to go into your ethernet adapter settings and make sure that it is using DHCP. DSL usually uses a different setting (PPP I think) and you will not be able to connect.

By the way, excellent choice in modems.
