I have an inground pool and have a hayward super pump. Just purchased last season. When we went to stat the pump this year, the basket is filling with water but it is not moving fast enough to give us the suction to even hold the skimmer basket down,. When I turn the valve to "backwash" , "drain", and rinse, we have perfect suction. We just are not getting any suction when the valve is in "filter" mode
First thing to check is the removal of any winterizing plugs in the return lines. Sometimes plugs are fitted inside the lines in the pool making them not obvious. Secondly, check that any valves in return line are open. Many never lube type valve handles are oppositely positioned as compared to ball valves. If the multiport valve hasn't been tampered with, then there really is no other place to look. The flows everywhere but back to pool.

well..you can start by blowing out the back of the motor with compressed air" where the wires go into tthe back of the motor cover" there is whats called a start switch there ! if this fails to fix it search for your local pool pump motor repair guy in your area and bring it to him for free testing.. CLICK HERE HOW TO REMOVE MY PUMP .. LAST prime the pump and make sure the filter needs to be clean
Can you be more descriptive? My guesses are that the motor is wired wrong, the motor is defective, There is a leak in the supply line or the pump and air is getting into the pump, causing the pump to cavitate.
If the pump motor runs continously it probibly is a suction side air leak, check all "O" rings, gaskets and fittings, it could also be a restricted suction screen or filter basket as well, Need more info to get more specific.
