it all depends what digital mode you use ,yes in Pro Logic mode on the display it shows only 1 S but if you try the balance for the SL-SR you will hear the difference .

No speakers are selected if just headphone is displayed. Press the speaker button just under the power button. No station is tuned when auto muting is displayed. Hook up an antenna to the receiver or use a different source like a cd player.
Hi, Please reset Onkyo receiver that will solve noisy sound problem, to reset the receiver, press and hold Video-1 button on unit and press Speaker-A button. Display will show *Clear* that means receiver has been restore on default settings, turn it On and check sound. Hope this will help. Thanks.
In most cases I find that that section in your receiver just got turned off somehow. Go into the set up where it shows the 5.1 speaker display and make sure the speakers are all activated. Larry's Electronics. [email protected]
check speaker wire connections on the back of receiver bare wires should never touch each other or the metal chassis if all connections and speakers seem ok the problem is internal witch can go from blown power supply to shorted output devices and everything in between , and as always look for repair shop in your area, do not attempt to do it yourself, firehazard and electric shock are the things we all want to avoid ;)
Disconnect the speakers and see what happens. Carefully examine the speaker cables for unwanted connections (shorts).
Take a clue from when the power problem appeared. Something was moved and made the buzz a (probable) dead short.
Try plugging a video monitor AKA your TV into that monitor output connector on the rear of the yamaha. Select video in on the TV and see if anything shows up from the yamaha
Sounds though like the receiver has serious issues. If you can get your moeny back , do so
The 'Subwoofer' output on your receiver is used to connect to a powered subwoofer with a built in amplifier. Your KLH speakers use what is called a 'passive' subwoofer, it gets its power from the receiver and then passes the higher frequencies to the left and right front speakers after taking out the low frequencies for the subwoofer. A speaker system with a passive subwoofer is good for casual listening, but a powered subwoofer is required for really hearing low frequencies and rumble in movies. The KLH speakers you have were highly rated in their time for their price. The four satellite speakers and center channel speaker have very good sound compared to the little 'midget' surround sound speakers most people buy today.
Here's how you hook them up:
- The left and right front channels from your receiver terminals should go to the terminals on the subwoofer marked 'From Amplifier'
- Your left and right front speakers are then connected to the subwoofer terminals marked 'To Speakers', they do not connect directly to your receiver.
- Your center speaker is connected to your receiver terminals marked 'Center'
- Your rear speakers are connected to your receiver terminals marked 'Surround'
That should get you up and running. If the bass isn't good enough with the passive subwoofer, you can get a decent powered subwoofer like the Velodyne VX-10 for about $150 and 'kick it up a notch'. Good luck and enjoy....
