Recording streaming audio

I use Adobe AUdition 1.5 and I am trying to record streaming audio. Is there a setting I have to change to do that? I start Adobe Audition, hit record and get no level, although I can hear the audio fine in my speakers. The mic records fine. What am I missing?

You may find yourself in need of recording audio using your desktop, laptop, or other mobile device. Below sections will introduce detailed steps of each device respectively.

Mac
All Macs (laptops and desktops) come with a built-in microphone.

1. Go to your Applications folder.
2. Open QuickTime Player.
3. Click File>New Audio Recording.
4. Click the red record button to begin recording.
5. Click the black stop button to stop recording.
6. Go to File>Save As to save your file to your desired location.

PC
All laptops and all-in-one computers have a built-in microphone. For users that have a monitor configuration, you may use some software to record internal audio, such as Leawo Music Recorder

1. Install and download Leawo Music Recorder on your computer.
2. Launch it and prepare what you want to record.
3. Click the start button and play the source audio at the same time.
4. Click the button again and save the recording in MP3 or WAV format.

Web
There are many web-based voice recording tools, such as Online Voice Recorder: Record Voice from the Microphone

1. Go to Record Voice from the Microphone.
2. If prompted by your browser, click Allow Microphone Access. You may also click on the Settings button to configure your microphone.
3. Click the red record button to begin recording.
4. Click the record button to end recording.
5. Click Save to download your recording.

iPhone
Open the Voice Memos app (all iPhones have this app, and it can't be deleted)

1. Press the red record button to begin recording.
2. Press the red stop button to stop recording.
3. Tap Done.
4. Type a name for your recording.
5. Press Save.
6. Tap your recording.
7. Press the share icon and email or AirDrop the file to another computer or device.

Android
Each Android device is different, and different carriers may load different apps on the device. Because of this, there is no standard voice recorder app for Android like there is for iOS. Your device may have an app installed already (look for apps labeled "Recorder," "Voice Recorder," "Memo," "Notes," etc.), or you may have to download one from the Google Play store (search for "Voice Recorder" and find an app that meets your needs). Because the apps may vary, the instructions below are more of a guide.

1. Locate or download a recorder app on your phone and click to open.
2. Press the Record button to begin recording.
3. Press the Stop button to end recording.
4. Tap your recording to share.

You would have to set adobe up to record from the wave device. But I cannot recommend or tell you how to go about this due to the fact streaming audio is 99% of the time copywritten material.

I am using Adobe audition 1.5 for recording my songs.. now.. i am facing big problem while using that software.. there is multitrack option available in that software. we have put karaoke track in one...

Welcome to FixYa!

I assume that you know your way around adobe audition 1.5 because I'm currently using adobe audition 3 on windows 7. The menus are different, but I'm going to give a few points that might help.

Windows Sound/Volume:
Make sure that the sound card you are using is selected, specially if you are using an additional external USB sound card (which is much better). Disable other sound cards, if any.

Adobe Audition:
One of the pull down menus located on the upper part, it has an option that says "Device Properties" or anything like that. This is where you set the input signal will be coming from and likewise the output signal.

The input signal should be the input of the sound card you selected in windows. Same goes for the output signal.

On multi-track view, check the track to be recorded. Make sure that the input is from the input of the sound card and not from anything else. The button for the setting is somewhere near the Solo/Mute/Record buttons.

If this will be set correctly, you will be able to play the song on the 1st track and record ONLY your voice on the 2nd track.

Keep me posted.

Thanks for using FixYa.

In have an new HP and instulled Audio Audition 1.5 while in multitrack view and am trying to record, I get a "Device ID out of range message" I've tried mostly everything.

Wow, it sounds like you didn't set up a device in the mixer for stereo input, or Adobe deadpanned that you wanted to record mic in and didn't ask to fix that going into multitrack. I've seen that often enough teleconferencing from WinXP swapping audio devices in and out, but by Windows 7 and 2011...this is a surprise. Just activate the appropriate line in in the input mixer in Windows (or more likely, your multitrack input mixer's controls.)

Surely this isn't it, and Adobe wants you to walk through the input level test modules first?

I am not a seasoned pro with Audition, but I have a basic working knowledge of it and do a good bit of recording at home. I recently purchased a Yamaha mixing console (MG166CX-USB) and I am unsure how to...

If you're wanting to use the Yamaha ASIO driver direct via USB, first make sure you have the driver installed.  Second, you have to enable the ASIO driver in the audio devices setup portion - or you can just go to your Windows Audio settings, and change the recording hardware to the Yamaha one.
Then you'll be able to record to 1 Stereo or 2 Mono channels off of the Yamaha ASIO driver.
It's more tricky doing it that way than just feeding the line-outs into your onboard or PCI/PCI-eX sound cards.
Poast back if you have more questions.  I'm at work now, but I can look at the specifics when I get home if you need further assistance.
If you need further help, be sure to post this info: 1. What version of Audition 2. What version of Windows 3. What type of soundcard do you have (if you want to do anything through that route).

Echo problem in adobe audition 1.5 (not environmental)

My best guess to start with is a reverb setting of some sort.
Are you recording in multitrack or edit view?  If one, try the other, and see if you get the same results.
Another guess would be a sound-card setting.  If you have any special effects setup on your soundcard (onboard, pci, pci-express, usb, etc), that could cause it.  Things such as 3d-surround settings, environmental settings, etc..
Also, what version of Windows?  What sound card/ audio interface?

Not able to record onto Adobe Audition 1.5

Sounds like you do not have your audio recording source set correctly.  If you're recording from a file on your computer or a CD via the CD-Rom drive of your computer, you need to probably set the recording to either "Wave" or "What you hear", one of the two.  The "What you hear" can be easiest, but then again, if any other sound comes accross your computer at the same time, you'll end up recording that as well, so it's best to stick to "wave" if you can... or make sure all Windows sounds are turned off (Audio settings ->Sounds ->Select "No Sounds" as the theme).
