When watching an HD channel my tv screen is fine, however, when I tune to an SD channel, I can see the whole picture, but it shifts completely to the left edge of the display. If I turn on PIP to side by side, swap them and then swap them back, the SD channel moves back to the middle where it should be....until I change channels again to another SD channel, then it moves back to the left edge. Then, sometimes, but not every time, when I go back to HD channel, the picture is full screen, but shifted slightly to the left. You can tell this by looking at the channel logos. I do the same PIP trick to bring it back to the middle. Any ideas??

SOURCE: Full screen view

in order to get the full HD experience you should be using HDMI cables. if you're using the white/red/yellow cables then your HD channels will not broadcast in full HD and you'll be stuck with the annoying black things around your screen

SOURCE: Plasma TV moving black and white lines

This is a result of poor conversion of a SD signal on a HD channel.  Go into your settings and adjust the h/v settings to move the line off the screen.  You can do this with a combination of v-position or vsize.

How to get full picture on my tv?

First, ensure your tv is using the highest resolution possible (Usually 1080 for flat screens) by using an HDMI cable from the receiver to the television, and that you are on the correct input. Second, ensure your tv is not sizing the video by using the 'picture size' or 'aspect' or 'ratio' key on the remote that came with your tv (Not your DISH remote). Third, tune your DISH receiver (with your DISH remote) to an HD channel (for VIP model receivers, when you tune the channel to an HD channel, an opaque white 'HD' appears insude the blue box at the top of the screen). Fourth, hit the star key on the remote, while watching the screen. On the right hand side, near the top, it will cycle as you hit repeatedly the star key, the style of screen widening. Hit the key as often as you need to make the screen appear the way you want it to. The receiver will remember your setting for all HD channels. When finished with the HD channel, tune your receiver (with your DISH remote) to a SD channel (any channel in the guide that does not have the HD icon). Repeat the fourth step.

For Hopper/Joey family receivers, hit menu, settings, screen size. Follow the instructions to resize your screen to match your preference. When finished, repeat step four above on each an HD and a SD channel.

Good evening, I've gone through the manual and I can't get my TV to show 100hz (always 50hz), also on some channels I cannot get the picture to fit the screen (it's 32''). Any help would be greatly...

Well, first the 100Hz issue. Your TV will display a descriptor or the signal it is receiving, not a descriptor of the picture you are watching. Your TV panel has a native resolution and frequency. In your case, that frequency is 100Hz. Everything, like it or not, must be converted to 100Hz for the TV to work. In your manual, you are simply adjusting setting which smooth the picture and make it flow better than it would at 50Hz. This feature is slight of hand and is probably working just fine. As for the picture fitting the screen; HD programs fill the screen of HD channels.... SD (Standard Definition) programs use black bars on each side when on HD channels. You can use any available wide or picture size feature your TV may have to stretch the picture. You may be unable to stretch the picture, due to restrictions (some TVs will not resize HD formats).

Blurry picture

In the store they use an HD source and connection. Is your cable box HD? It will have component or hdmi connections if it is.You have use either one to get HD everything else will be SD(standard def). And you have to be on an HD channel.Digital cable refers to how the signal is delivered doesn't mean its HD. SD channels on digital still look bad..

Bravia & Sky+HD, aspect problem

There is nothing wrong with you Sony Bravia TV and it suppport all HD and SD formats.

Are you viewing the HD version of the channel when it is showing a standard defination show. e.g SKY1 HD instead of SKY1.

This means that regular standard defination shows are in a 4:3 ratio and does not fill the whole screen. In order to view these type of shows you will need to tune to regular channel instead of the HD version.

You can check if a show is brocast in HD by going into the tv guide and checking for the HD symbol in the programme symposis.

DVD records a black screen if tv is on standby.

You have tuned the dvd recorders channels? dont forget a recorder dvd/hd/vcr is actually a tv set without its own screen and to record from channels you need to have its on board channels tuned in... what you have been probably doing is using a function on many recorders that records direct tv... what this means is it records the feed back signal through the scart lead of what ever channel your tv is tuned to at the time that is why no tv on = no signal
