-Check heater control valve. (The one open and closed water)
it should move when turn to hot or cold. If it move or turn.
-Next disconnect the heater hoses (Two lines) and flush with garden water hose from both direction for couple minutes.

You should be good for winter.

If you've changed the coolant recently, it could be air locked in the heater core. To remove park the truck with the front higher than the back and remove the radiator cap. Start the engine and let it run while watching for a big air bubble burp coming out the radiator neck. Top off the coolant and continue.

SOURCE: Heater doesn't blow hot air

First check the coolant level in the radiator. Check your heater core hoses on the firewall underneath the hood. Let the car come up to temp. and feel the two hoses. If only one of them is getting hot you may have bad heater core or a bad heater control valve.

SOURCE: Why doesn't the heater blow hot air?

If your "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light is on, you need to have that checked out first.
If not, the next thing you should check is your engine coolant level. (Antifreeze) If the coolant level is low, the engine coolant does not circulate through the heater core and the the heater doesn't work. The coolant level could be low for a number of reasons including a leaky hose, water pump, or head gasket. In any case, if it is found to be low, you need to find out why.
If the coolant level is OK then the thermostat function needs to be checked to make sure that the engine is reaching operating temperature.
If all of the above checks out OK, then the heater control valve and/or the blend air door in the HVAC housing needs to be checked for proper operation. (NOTE: some cars are not equipped with a heater control valve)

Why would a 2009 toyota sienna, blows hot air?

does the hot/cold control knob feel like it is moving something or is it very hard/easy to turn ? sounds as if the hot/cold setting is stuck at hot would need to strip back heater control panel and follow the control wire/cable to the heater box where a flap opens and shuts for hot or cold air and see what is happening ,cable may have broken , flap may have come off it's hinge won't know until you get a look at it , the engine isn't over heating is it ?

I have a 1997 toyota tacoma that the heater works sometimes but not other times?

heater, totally dead.

1: blower working and blowing cold air ,

2: engine holds 180F or more all the time, HOLDS !! i use an IR pyro gun to do that as dash gauges suck.

3: heat lever bad, slipping or stuck (look)

4: some cars have no water valve, so use damper , it can stick closed.

if engine coolant was hot at heater failure we can work this easy.

yes< then is both heater hoses hot touch , fan on, engine hot.

see them as they enter fire wall, on both sides.?

you can in fact feel them on all cars.

ever do a real RAD cooling system flush , if not, BINGO, full of crap inside.

2004 Toyota tacoma Pre runner 4 door AC works fine blows cold, No heat ? have checked radiator and thermostat as well as heater core have hot coolant running through entire system but still no heat not on...

You have a problem wit the air temperature control blend or the blend door actuator motor, most times both are defective. The parts are located deep in the dash and as such the dash assembly must be removed to service the parts.

My heater does not work on my toyota tacoma 2007 prerunner, the fan is only working...

heater core might be blown-off. also see your fuses for heater under your dash fuse panel or at the under hood sometimes where they are.check your cold lever position might be at full cold counter clock wise, move it to hot position clock wise.

My 99 tacoma the fan blows but not hot air. the thermostat is good and full of antifreeze.

You need engine heat, circular, and a blower to get heat. You've already done the first steps of making sure you have enough fluid, etc.
Circulation - water pump - not likely because when they fail they usually bind up or leak really badly.
Heater core - would be my next guess. If this is blocked you won't get any hot water to blow air through. The heater core goes through the firewall. If you can get to the hose connections, disconnect them and see if you can flush any water through the core. Most likely you will have to replace it.
