To replace MOST microwave oven door handles all you have to do is open the door and remove the inner plastic panel around the glass. This is accomplished by taking a small screwdriver and carefully inserting it along the perimeter to pop it loose (there are usually some grooves you can insert the screwdriver in).

NOTE: DO NOT pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and has an RF shield that protects the consumer from the microwaves being generated by the magnetron. Breaking it, requires a new door replacement.

With the panel removed, you will be able to access the screws that hold the handle in place. Once the new handle is in place, carefully reinsert the inner plastic panel by snapping it back in place all the way around the perimeter of the door glass.

If you have questions, or if your door is configured differently, please let me know. If you have the ability to send photos, that helps too. A model number may also be useful so I can identify how your door is assembled. I hope this helps you,

My handle door is broken.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. There are 4 different doors for this microwave see this link:

http://specsserver.com/CACHE/FRJVHRUTDMYQ.PDF

Item 58 is the door handle

Part numbers are:

5304440323 - - - - Handle, door, black

5304440325 - - - - Handle, door, bisque
5304440324 - - - - Handle, door, white
Stainless handle not listed.. I assume it is a black handle

This has to be one of the more expensive microwave door handles I have ever experienced.

The least expensive source I found was at sears parts direct.
5304440324 Handle door white Price $88.80
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5304440324/0022/628?pathTaken=partSearch&filterPart=&pop=flush

5304440323 Handle door black Price $98.97
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5304440323/0022/628?pathTaken=partSearch&filterPart=&pop=flush

5304440325 Handle door bisque Price $88.80
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/5304440325/0022/628?pathTaken=partSearch&filterPart=&pop=flush

Note that Item 51 of the first link (top one) is the complete door assy. Also Item 60 is the door HANDLE screws (2 ea)

Just from looking at the diagrams in the first link, it appears item 56
Frame, choke cover, inner door
must be removed to gain access to the handle screws.

I looked up many sources for the handle assembly because I had a hard time believeing the handle was so expensive. Sears was by far the cheapest source.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How do you take the door off? I too have a broken handle and door...

If only the door handle is broken, it can easily be replaced on MOST microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and replace the door handle:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3696942-microwave_oven_door_handle_replacement

The average cost for a replacement handle usually runs about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided.

The door handle on this model has two parts (items 3 and 8). Depending on what is broken, you may only need to order one or the other. Both parts, combined, is still only about $20. The part numbers are WB15X10119 and WB15X10120, respectively.

The door handle is a simple repair that can be done with the door in place, or with the door removed. You do not have to uninstall the oven if this is an over the range model.

NOTE: If you wish to remove the door, all you need to do on most models is open the door all the way and lift straight up at the hinges.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Door handle broken away from microwave unit.

The door handle can easily be replaced. This is a common problem with microwave oven doors. You would think the manufacturer's would make them a bit more durable.

This is a very simple repair. To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you have questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Replace handle on microwave oven

The part number for a new handle is 820941 and costs approx. $19. If you already have the part and are wanting to install it follow these steps:

You can either do this with the door in place, or remove it. To remove it, you open the door all the way and push up at the hinges. The door should lift off the hinge pins.

1. On the back side of the door (the side that faces the interior of the oven) is a plastic facing around the perimeter of the glass.

2. There should be a series of slots or grooves around the facing that you can place a small screwdriver in.

3. Carefully (I cannot emphasize this enough) lift around the facing until it comes loose. You may not have to remove it all the way around the door. Sometimes you can gain enough access by lifting on the side where the door handle it mounted.

4. Under the door facing are the mounting bolts (or screws). Remove broken handle and install new handle.

5. Reinstall components in the reverse order as stated before.

If you are waiting to order the part for your oven, you can get it at repairclinic.com. The part will be shipped directly do you for a nominal shipping fee.

This should be a fairly simple repair that only takes about 10-15 minutes.

Again, be careful with the door. If you break it, a replacement door costs over $200! Good luck and let me know if I can help further.
