I haver a customer with a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. User complained the laptop had a virus, upon further inspection i discovered the vid card had a loose connection. So fixed that laptop booted fine picture in screen, went well at shop, user gets home and finds that the screen is now switching off after about 30minutes if that, ruling out the power savings options what else may be causing the screen to switch off? windows is loaded when this happens.

This used to happen to my Inspiron 8500, apparently the video card was getting heated up, and failed. Earlier when it started up it worked fine after a while it played up. Suggestion was to have the geforce4 4200 64mb card replaced. Present problem is when I was taking out the graphics card and replacing it, I have apparently pulled extra on one of the flimsy connectors and now the screen does not show any thing, even using external monitor. Need to know which connector to start checking for loose fitting to get the screen to show some activity.
