If you can get the plastic case off, use a bristle brush to get any lint & dust out of there too. Watch where any washers come from, better still take pictures as you go along. Use a light white grease to line the gears, check for gumminess. There's cleaners available just be sure it's safe on plastic gears!
Lay parts out in an exploded fashion in the order to take them off & in the right orientation or direction they were removed, note any unique features such as locking parts that fit in a certain way.
