I not really sure on this machine if it has these setting, but most fax do. There is a setting that allows you to automatic choose reduction of a fax if the one sent was larger than 8 1/2 x 11. Good Luck

I continue to receive "paper too narrow. load with wider paper" message despite using 8 1/2 x 11" paper. This was not an issue I've ever had before and am using the same size (standard) paper as I always...

Check the Paper Size Settings.

The only document I found at HP.com that may seem to address your issue is the following:

A 'Paper Mismatch' or 'Paper too Narrow' Error Occurs While Receiving a Fax

If you have a problem just reply on us.
Good luck!

Not receiving messages. "Load paper" and "rec'd in memory." I take out paper, reload, and push stop/reset. Still get same messages.

The machine thinks that there is no paper so it stores the documents in memory. Remove the paper, turn off the machine and unplug from the power for 5 seconds, then turn the machine back on and wait for a few seconds - now try and load the paper. The machine should try to reset the paper tray but if your problem persists then it sounds as though the paper sensor is faulty or has fallen out of it's position.

Paper too narrow error

Have it save-to-image instead of print-to-paper. That should make it happier.

You can then print it out later, re-sizing it to fit the paper you have to print on.

Paper missmatch

Cause The HP all-in-one has a media sensor that checks the type of paper loaded before printing a fax. If the sensor detects that the paper is not plain paper, this message will display. The message may also display when the correct paper is loaded in the all-in-one, but the media sensor cover is displaced, distorted, or covered by debris. Paper

If you see this message on the front panel of the HP PSC 2210 when you are receiving a fax, check that the paper size is set to match the paper size in the paper tray. (You cannot receive a fax on 4 x 6 paper or on an envelope.) Checking the paper size setting
  1. Press Setup .
  2. Press the right arrow until you see 3: Basic Fax Setup .
  3. Press Enter .
  4. Press the right arrow until you see 4: Paper Size .
  5. Press Enter .
  6. Press the right arrow until you see the paper size that matches the size of the paper in the paper tray.
  7. Press Enter .

Incoming fax problem

DON'T KNOW IF THIS WILL HELP-BUT MY PROBLEM WAS SIMILAR--MINE WAS SAYING PAPER TOO NARROW WHEN I WAS TRYING TO PRINT AND COPY. I JUST KEPT MOVING THE FRONT SLIDER AND THE LEFT HAND SIDE SLIDERS BACK AND FORTH AND TOOK THE PAPER IN AND OUT --TRIED AGAIN AFTER EACH TIME--IT EVENTUALLY FIGURED OUT I DID HAVE THE RIGHT SIZE PAPER--
ALSO TRY---MENU--THEN--COPY SET-UP--THEN PAPER SIZE--SEE IF PAPER SIZE IS SET RIGHT.

I can neither send or receive faxes

hi 003 - Recording paper jammed when feeding from the 3rd cassette. Remove the jammed paper. (1) Open the Printer Cover. (2) Remove the jammed paper. (3) Slide out the Paper Cassette. (4) Remove the jammed or wrinkled paper and reload the recording paper into the paper cassette. Caution: Make sure that the paper is set under the clips of the Paper Cassette. You can load about 500 sheets with standard weight paper (20 lb. or 75 g/m2). good luck
