Bad fan motor I suspect The windings are bad causing the motor to over heat sending the motor into thermal overload. would suggest the replacement of motor. Good Luck on repairs

Until now this unit has never had the compressor run without the fan. Is the compressor running without the fan a problem? If so, what can I do to correct it?

Possibly a tstat issue. Run system until satisfied, once satisfied indoor fan shuts down compressor still runs remove tstat face plate and see if compressor shuts down. Another issue could be a sticking contactor for compressor. With a meter you could check at the contactor to see if you lose your 24volts for cooling but contactor remains pulled in.

15,000 btu roof mount 2nd ac nonducted cycles about every 5 or so mins ice cold air for about 1 mins

Have you checked location of probe for return air? Remove filters and find probe to make sure it is about in the middle of flow of return air. Let me know what you find.

BDP Heat Pump Transformer Keeps Blowing

Should have a 5 amp fuse on red wire in between transformer and tstat. If not put one. This will protect transformer. Turn power off and take a good picture of tstat wiring. Remove all wires to the tstat. With the air handler wires join fan and red. (Likely green) let run. Then add compressor and reversing valve ( if reversing valve is energized in cooling ) which in most cases it is. Should then have cold air. Let run. If no problems you know it's outside of the machine. Tstat or wiring. Hook inside of machine all back up to tstat wires. Do the same thing with the tstat wire inside the thermostat. If no problems, must be bad tstat. Hook everything back up right. If fuse blows or transformer because you didn't put the fuse, then you know for sure it's the stat. Good Luck

We turned the ac unit control knob in between the high cool and low cool, which turned off the ac unit, but messed it up where it shorts the circuit breaker when we try to turn it back on. What did we do?

YOU MIGHT OF JUST SHORT CYCLED IT . ALL AC UNITS NEED ABOUT 3-5 MIN TO EQUALIZE PRESURE ON COMPRESSOR BEFORE RE STARTING  . IF THIS IS RV AC MAKE SURE YOU HAVE WELDING TYPE EXTENSION CORD

My outside heat pupmp still runs when the tstat is turned to off, have to shut it off at the breaker

The majority of the time it is a contactor that its contacts welded together. Call service tech ask for free estimate up front. You can replace it yourself if you have a few electrical skills. To check to see if the contactor is the problem. Shut off power to indoor unit. This will kill control power to outside unit. If it still runs it is the contactor. If not you have a control problem. Tstat, shorted wires . Rus

Heater not working

Yes, you can bypass the tstat by using a jumper wire between the power wire and the heat side. These units are typically millivolts and require a special tstat. But anyway, that's how you check to see if it's the tstat.
